Greetings,

Here is a link to a Magura brake at unicycle.com. A model of the Coker
is sold with the brake pre-installed but you can do it yourself.

I think you will also have to add the necessary mounting hardware for
the brake so here is a url to the ‘braze-on’ mounting kit. I think
you’ll need some welding experience for this one…

There may be other options available to you. Good Luck.

Cheers,

Re: the bigone

Just thought you might like to see what they look like when they have been
braised on and the frame powder coated.

Very nice Roger. I especially like the look of the powder coated Nimbus
II frame.

When I bought my Coker, one of the first things I did was post here asking about how to fit brakes, because it was so hard to stop, or to control on down hills.

Less than a year later, I’m riding it confidently on the Queen’s highway, uphill and down dale, on road and off road, and seldom have a problem.

As I understand it, brakes on unicycles are handy for long descents because they can be used as a drag, applying a fairly constant level of braking power to ‘flatten out’ a decline.

Applying a brake to stop a large uni from speed sounds like a recipe for ballistic corporeal pronation.

You need to know that a large wheel may take 2, 3 or even 4 wheel revolutions to stop from speed. Possibly even more. So you plan, you read the trail, you look what’s coming, you slow down in time. It’s a different, but very rewarding experience.

Or not. One of my teenage boy neighbors thought it would be funny to play
bullfighter with me, so I ran into him.

I was, of course, fine, having a nice soft body to ride down and land on.
Grendel was, of course, fine.
