I just recieved the KH20 trials uni. My friend has a Summit, so of course we’ve been comparing them. The thing is, I can’t see any huge differences aside from the frame shape. Is one stronger than the other? I know the KH20 is lighter, which makes a bit of a difference.
So are there any other differences?
One has a summit logo, and the other a KH logo. Also, the KH should have blackened spokes, and the summit silver. The KH saddle should also have “axiom” on the front, while the summit KH seat won’t. Finally, the new KHs that arrived at unicycle.com recently aren’t supposed to have those annoying nubs. Least that’s what Kris said. Only differences I’ve ever noticed.
my Summit came with a KH seat that has the Axiom logo on it.
the crown on a KH is angled down, the Summit crown is flat.
Actually, my friend has Axiom on his Summit. My other friend doesn’t have Axiom on his Summit, and I don’t have Axiom on my KH.
BTW, is there any difference of the spokes other than color?
I didn’t want to make a new thread for this, but I have a question:
My KH20, and my friends Summit, make an annoying clicking when I’m riding. I can kind of feel it in the left crank. The Summit is a lot worse than mine, and I have a feeling mine will get like that some time. He thinks it’s the spokes rubbing against each other, but I’m not sure. How can I fix it?
Tension those spokes immediately or make sure you roll out of drops. Also try tightening your crank and pedal. I’ve also noticed the summit seems to come with undertensioned spokes. Least your hub doesn’t have a loose keyway:p . If you want to tension the spokes yourself, go to the local well stocked bike shop with your unicycle and buy a spoke wrench that fits. Then go home and go around the wheel slowly increasing the tension by going around the wheel and turning each spoke about 1/8 turn, until they feel right. Be careful when the spokes start getting tight, so you don’t round out any nipples. Then true up the wheel, check the dish and you’re done. You can true the wheel without using a truing stand. Leave the frame on the wheel, and put a pen on each fork blade at the rim using a rubber band. The spin it and check the true. Hope this helps. Wheelbuilding is a really useful skill. Make sure you get the right size spoke wrench, though. It’ll probably be the green or black ones. I think the KH and summit use 14g spokes. If you get the wrong size, you may end up rounding out the spoke nipples, and that sucks. Hope this helps, later.
My summit had that clicking sound too. I took it to my LBS and had them retention the spokes (about $10). The clicking continued, so I greased and tightened the whole crank/hub assembly. The clicking got better for a while, then continued. Finally, I asked the wonderful people on this forum, and the suggested anti seize. That worked!! The copper antiseize did the trick!! I just took the hub/crank assembly apart and slathered the parts in antiseize. Worked for me, I hope it works for you.
BTW, antiseize can be found in any automotive store. It should be a paste that looks like thick copper fleck paint.
