I have had a Torker and an old Swhinn(Spell) unicycle my pedals over a years stripped out of them. I recently bought KH Trial unicycle. Will I ever have any problem with it stripping the pedals. Is there any ways to avoid strippage?
Make sure the pedals are always tight. Use grease or loctight on the pedal threads to help get them tight and keep them from freezing up. It’s also a good idea to grease all the threads on all the bolts on the uni and grease the spindle/axle before installing the cranks.
I’d recommend against using loctite on pedal threads… using grease will help you to tighten your pedals more easily and effectively than with dry (ungreased) threads… thus your pedals will stay tighter longer. With grease, you can take your pedals off (say if you have to pack your uni in a box or in your car) and put them back on no problem… the grease stays on the threads and performs its job over and over.
With Loctite, the first time you remove your pedals, you must carefully clean the pedal and crank threads (to remove the old Loctite) then apply a fresh coat of Loctite before achieving the same amount of “tightness”… the extra adhesion offered by Loctite isn’t all that much, unless you use the “extra strength” Loctite, in which case you may never be able to remove your pedals at all…
on my qu-ax my pedals stripped in like 1 month. im outta commission now. it sucks.
