Straightening cranks?

Hi all,

My Monty was a tad wobbly the other day but I thought it was just an off
day. Sadly not… bent crank. As they are cut down and re-tapped Shimano
Deores I’d like to straighten them and am wondering what the best way to
do this is… or even if it’s worth doing given that the metal will never
be as strong again.

Failing that can anyone recommend a stronger cotterless crank in
135 - 140mm?

Cheers, Neil

I don’t know about aluminum cranks, but I have been able to bend some Tai
steel cranks back to shape. (Not that they were any good for trials after
that, but they did get me home and stuff). I just put my bad foot
forward, slid my feet way out to the side on the pedals, and did a few
high hops, landing as hard as I could. I’m sure you’re all laughing by
now, but it worked.

Hi Chris,

It did the trick but, alas, a few more drops and they were back in the
same wonky shape. Only to be expected I guess. The search continues…

Cheers, Neil
