I had a metaphysical concern this week end : how do you mount a splined
crank arm on a splined hub ? I mean do you need a special tool because of
the splined grooves ?

You can start the cranks onto the axle by hand, making sure the splines
line up. Then pound them on the rest of the way with a rubber mallet.

Or you can cinch them down neatly with the install/remove tool included
with the Profile hub set from unicycle.com. It works really well.
