Guys I figured out what I was doing wrong.
I was focusing on the pictures and assumed cut first peel later

Any update?
I’ve had an update for a while but I haven’t been able to post it due to already having three posts in a row.
Update#1: I tried the new approach on scrap tires but I don’t think either of these tires have a proper casing so the peel got closer to the middle of the tire and put a few holes in it
Update#2: I continued with the sanding method because of how far I was and started sewing.
Update#3: finished and took it on a short ride
