spinergy wheels

I was flipping through a bicycling catalog, and noticed the spinergy ‘spox’
wheels that are available. They’re not the type that have the four carbonfibre
panels, but instead they have some special spokes that are stronger and lighter
than steel, and some other high tech features, making it an expensive but
lightweight wheel. 32 spokes. I guess these wheels in general aren’t good for
uni’ing, as they’re designed for high speed in one direction, and not for
withstanding any side loads, but with the blurb about these Spox wheels I
thought they might hold up well as a uni wheel, and a light weight one at that
too. Any comments? Other alternatives to the conventional spoke designs?

My advice is to try it out and see how it holds up, being aware of the expense
involved. I suppose it’s the only way we can find out. Your riding style may
allow for the wheel to last forever, or it may turn out not to be suited to
unicycling-type use.

Daniel Hopkins has built a unicycle with a composite wheel.

some technical problems with other areas of his advanced design.
