spikes and shoes

I have pedals on my MUni that have both fixed but somewhat blunt as
well as removable sharp spikes. I’ve removed the latter (for foot
repositioning). Yet it seems that my shoe soles wear much faster.
They’re a kind of rubber that seems to tear where the studs are. But
maybe they were almost at the end of their lifetime anyway.

Anyone experience such damage to their shoe soles?

yes… finally someone understands! i go through a pair of shoes every month!, i don;t really use my shoes for walking mostly bike trials and unicycling

AXO/661 shoes or Vans shoes will last you more than a month. The sole on the AXO/661 Dually acually holds up better than the Vans. I usually get 6 to 12 months of muni use with my shoes and I use pedals with grippy set screws.

Re: spikes and shoes

John, the pair of AXOs you gave me last December are still going strong. The
soles show barely any wear although the bottom of my Roach pads has worn a
little leather away from very top of one shoe. I ride with grippy set screw
pedals and even used these for hiking some of the time in Bhutan. I’ve also
worn them on various Coker rides like the Mt Diablo Challenge last Sunday.
They are fantastic and I sure wish I could get more of them.

Re: Re: spikes and shoes

I wrote that too quickly without making it clear that the Dually lasts longer than my Vans. My Vans last me about 6 to 12 months of muni use. I’ve been using the AXO Dually for about 12 months now and they are still going strong. The sole is still good. The upper is holding together, but I also had some wear where my Roach pads rub on the inside of the ankle covers. I got that patched up at a shoe repair shop. I would expect the AXO shoes to hold up well for another 6-12 months or more. Definately a good shoe that won’t wear out quickly.

Re: spikes and shoes

I have the SIXSIXONE dually’s and they seem to be of a lesser quality… is
there any truth to my observation?

thanx

Re: spikes and shoes

Kris says he actually likes the 661 version better. I bought a pair and
returned it because the sizing wasn’t right and there seems to be too much
variation between the size below me and the size above. Bronson also has the
661 version but he had trouble with them - the lace holes completely blew
out after only 6 months or so.

Wasn’t there an issue about 8 months ago as to the age of the AXO Duelly shoes?

Weren’t the older ones really better?

If that is the case, can JOhn or Nathan clarify if they have the newer ones or the older ones. Maybe, I am just confused.

Nathan and I have the old AXO Dually. AXO turned into 661 and now the Dually has a slightly different design with the 661 logo.

I haven’t tried the 661 Dually. When my AXOs wear out I’ll give the new 661s a try. Hopefully they’ll be OK. They use European sizing and don’t do all the half-sizes so you kind of need to get lucky and have the right sized foot to wear them.
