Speed Record

Found this on an old message I posted from a World Records calendar I had.

Interestingly, one week earlier, also in Japan, Floyd Crandall’s old record of
14.89 (seconds) fell to a new Guinness-accepted record of 13.71.

Also, the most amazing part about Takayuki’s ride was that (according to him) he
did the whole ride without a dismount. Now that’s a record in itself!

Forgetting? No. I’m just assuming he got off at least once along the way.

I do seem to remember something, though, about Steve McPeak, in the early 70’s,
probably on the same ride, trying to set a one day record. I don’t remember if I
read this somewhere, or if I heard it from John Jenack, but he supposedly rode
186 miles in 23 1/2 hours or something like that. The following day he rode 0
miles, and who can blame him?

If those numbers are true that’s probably a 24 hour record for unicycles. But I
don’t believe the ride was documented, in other words tracked and verified by a
third party like Takayuki’s 100 mile ride.

I was there. He did it on my 42" big wheel, and I had the “pleasure” to see my
record broken fo rthe third? time. I did it in 1980 in 11:26 minutes, I think,
faster than the Guinnes record at the time…

I am quite sure that this info is in Jack Wiley7s Unicycle Book.
