Unbelieveable though it may be, myself and kingston99 have built one of these.
The actual name for it is a Monowheel, and is defined as a single wheeled vehicle where the driving device (be it a pedalling driver or an engine) sits within the wheels circumference. There’s lots of info about classic designs here:

This ‘MonoCycle’ looks to be a bastardisation of the nillson 1936 monowheel and is based upon the earliest circus derived designs.
Yet again it is proved that Star Wars is the most unoriginal franchise on the planet. They even used Battling Diwheels (2 monowheels side by side, with a carriage between) in Episode II.
