This sunday it snowed a bit on Montreal, so we tried to make slides on snowy
slopes It seems we could manage some short slides under control, but most of the
time it was like real difficult to stay on top

Does anyone learned how to slide

  1. i.e either by 90degree’ing when going down the slope and slide on side (uh),
either by braking like crazy on one leg, slightly leg extended, and sliding
    forward (some success)
  2. on ‘command’ - ie would be real nice during a muni ride to negociate
    wet,slippery ground with controlled slides

i’ll try again tonite

We use the controled skid or slide a bit on winter muni rides round here. The
ground is often wet and clay soil is very slippery when wet. The way I ride it
is to hold each pedal turn with the feet roughly level for as long as possible
while slideing down the slope , turning the pedals again as the balence runs
out. This means each slide is quite short but the linking of short slides by
half revolutions allows this method to be used over a longer distance.

It feels really good when a seris of slides come together and work out right to
get you down a steep slimey slope with out getting the feet muddy.
