Screen Format too wide.

Is it something I can fix on my end?

In the past couple of days, the format on my 13" screen requires me to scroll left/right. I didn’t have to last week.

Have I done something?

Get a bigger screen. 17-inch screens are around $100 or so at Sam’s or Wal-mart. Otherwise, increase your resolution. Most websites are compatible with either 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768. If you can run at least 800 X 600.
BTW, maybe this should be in the Just Conversation area.

No, it’s Mr. Eduardo’s user name and how the site handles his name in the columns. We as users need to be aware of how the length of our name affects the screen layout.

Screen Format too wide

Nah. It wouldn’t make any sense over there, because the problem’s only happening in Rec.Sport.Unicycling.
This could easily be corrected by convincing Eduardo to register (he isn’t registered at the moment).

…ish…

His posts use a different character encoding, which is buried in the name. In a newsreader it doesn’t have the =?iso-whatnot in unless you look at the full headers. Presumably fixing it would need a bit of a-tweakin’ of whatever pulls the posts off the newsgroup and onto the forum…

Whoop! There it is! Thanks, Gilby!

You’re welcome.

If I were wearing a hat before, I wouldn’t be now…

Phil, just me

I second the thanks. Back to normal now.

Re: Screen Format too wide.

I’ve changed my username to a more compact format… It wasn’t my intention
to bore anyone here. I don’t have a good news server and I use the mail
mode. My entire name was the signature of my e-mail program. I’m sorry by
the troubles…

Wrong. I use Free Agent 1.21/32. Usually my “Show Full Headers” is
off, yet Mr. Eduardo’s name comes off in the Subjects list as
“(=?iso-8859-1?Q?Eduardo_Louren=E7o_Pinto_Jr.?=)”
It seems to be fixed now on the forum but not yet on rsu.

Re: Re: Screen Format too wide.

MicroPlanet Gravity also displays Eduardo’s name using the “=?iso-8859” characters. But Outlook Express correctly displays his name without the extra extraneous mess.

This is disturbing because it means Outlook Express does something better than Free Agent and Gravity.

It isn’t Eduardo’s fault the software is broken.

I was gently chastised for having last year’s 13 inch screen. (I’m saving up for a Coker). Actually, I’d really love to access this forum from my Palm. It’s screen is only 2 inches. Then I could ask pertinent technique questions from the Trail. (Something like: “I was just sucked into a mudhole. How do you power through the deep stuff?”)

Are we there yet, or should I wait another 6 mos.?

PS I wouldn’t have posted except I want to be Mr. 50,000.

Screen Format too wide

Posting from the trail, hmmm…

That’s either way cool Cyber-Muni, or pathetically web-co-dependent … I can’t decide.

Do you have armor for your Palm? (would that be called a Glove?)

Re: Screen Format too wide.

I compose my messages using Outlook Express. This may be the reason that
Outlook Express may read them right. The best trouble, was in reason of a
character which exists just in Portuguese and is present in my name. I’ve
solved the problem abreviating it. Sorry by the troubles I’ve caused…

No worries, you’ll find we’re all very tolerant people at heart here:p

I had a look at your web site, that’s an excellent wooden recumbent you built, a real work of art.

Have fun!

Graeme

i had the same problem at the same time and it kinda fixed itself

Re: Screen Format too wide.

Hi Graeme

I plan to build a wooden unicycle too. I’ve started with a steel one, to
learn to ride and to acquire some necessary skills. Next year, I will build
two unicycles.

  1. A 26" wheel plus a front frame with a 20" wheel (an expanded version of
    the UNIQO bike).

  2. A wooden frame unicycle, maybe with a 20" wheel.

Not your fault Eduardo. And thanks for fixing it!
