Schwinn Wheel Sets? Seat Posts?

All,

I have a 1985 Schwinn 24" Unicycle and I would like to be able to actually use it as a learner unicycle (in case I hook anybody new) and/or just be able to cycle on it. Right now I have the original components and they are all in good shape but since I plan on it being actually used by people (including me), I’d like to be able to buy the standard 1.75x20" tires from Walmart, etc.

So, I’m thinking of buying one of the Schwinn Wheel Sets for 24" from Unicycle.Com. I am wondering if anybody has taken advantage of that option, and what you thought of it?

I am also considering getting a Schwinn seat post. They are out of stock but supposedly the Sem Cycle Deluxe seat post works with the Schwinn. Has anybody tried that?

Finally, if you did try the seat post extension, did you need anything else or did your current seat work as-is with what you got in the mail?

Thanks,

Lewis

That’s exactly what’s on my Schwinn 24" right now. The Semcycle seat post is essentially identical to the Schwinn one, works perfectly.

The 20" Schwinn wheelset is good. I got one to use as the “top” wheel in my
three wheeler. It included the bearings and cranks. It’s a good value as
far as I’m concerened.

I have the 400mm post and it is actually better than the Schwinn. The
Schwinn posts have holes that are punched. This dimples the post and may
weaken the post. The Semcycle post has holes that are drilled (or
machined?). I believe this probably makes for a stronger post.

I don’t know what you mean by “seat post extension”. If you need to extend
the length of the post you simply get a longer post.

All the stuff I got worked beautifully. I had to buy new pedals as the
cranks on the Schwinn wheelset were 9/16 and all the “spare” pedals I have
are 1/2. But, as far as seat/post compatibility everything works great.

You’re welcome.
