Santa Pod

Hey guys and girls!

Yesterday I went to Santa Pod Raceway to watch the European Drag Finals!
I don’t know anything about drag racing but it was a really good day out with loads of lovely cars on display.

Here are a few pictures!

And finally, we found this place on the way home. We just had to stop and take a picture!

Rock on!
Edd

i thjought it was gonna be a themed Ipod for some reason

me too.

those are some really nice cars.

It just seems weird to hear about drag racing in Europe or the UK. Drag racing seems to be more of an American kind of thing. Big American cars, big horsepower. Europe seems to be more of the F1 and rally style racing than muscle bound drag racing.

It just sounds out of place.

As out of place as it sounds…

…THAT is a sweet ride.

Hell yeah! That truck belonged to a paint spraying company, There were loads of VW Beetle bonnets on display with various paint schemes on them. I was going to get a few pictures but they were starting the racing.

Rock on!
Edd

Got the pic of me aswell!

Cultural export.
Before you know it the US will be in the soccer world cup.

Cool - I keep meaning to go there one day, but haven’t got round to it yet.
John: Just because we CAN build cars that go round corners it doesn’t mean drag racing isn’t still cool :stuck_out_tongue: Much less boring to watch than F1 IMO - if you want interesting circuit racing watch a lower formula or touring cars.
Oh, Edd… I thought you didn’t like old cars
You should have had a unicycle in that Bell End picture, then you could have claimed to have ridden there and put it in the Blubberhouses thread.

Rob

Here is a few more:

Oh and Rob, I don’t mind old cars. I don’t really like american cars, Ironic that I went drag racing I know! There were some good british cars there aswell, like the orange Vauxhall Chevette in this pic:

There was also a VW fastback, that was beating most of the american cars! but I didn’t get a photo of that :stuck_out_tongue:

Rock on!
Edd

Duh! German engineering owns all. I have a friend that hustles people at the street races every once in a while with his rat-rodded old 73 super beetle…

Did you say hi to GILD for me?

Ay?

All of the cars had V8’s in, apart from an E-Type Jag, and that had a V12!
Just about the only original german part on it was the badge on the front!

Rock on!
Edd

That Camaro looks familiar…

That’s not Gild, that’s me.

Funny. I don’t remember the top of your head sticking up through your hair. Are you that way now?

Several British drivers and cars currently or recently held several land speed records. The British heavy equipment company recently set the land speed record for a diesel powered car at something like 350 mph (but they had to go to the US at Bonneville Salt Flats to set the record). So yes, the British have a history for liking to go fast in a straight line.

Still, a full fledged drag race seems out of place in the EU.

you might be surprised how much hot rodding activity and interest there is in Europe…I’m on a few such forums, and the folks across the pond are well represented. Especially surprising considering how expensive and hard to get Amrican car parts are over there.

I meant to say that the British company is JCB. Here’s some news of the record from the JCB DieselMax web site.

Just found this out!
