Greetings!

Your roving NUC reporters Mark Stephens, Bill Heaton, John & Jacquie = Foss,
Alan Tepper, Barb and Tom Kowalski, and John Drummond here. = Reporting live
(and half awake 12:35 p.m.) from the metropolis of = Adrian, Michigan.

Alan says, “I’m so glad I made it to my 3rd convention. Now that the = kids have
seen the performances, once again the learning curve goes = through the ceiling!
We look forward to hosting the 2002 NUC again in = Snoqualmie Valley,
Washington, and we would very much like to combine it = with Unicon 11 if the
IUF is agreeable.”
=20
In other news, Alan has announced that Kara Clearman is sporting her new =
Expert T-Shirt, which matches her wardrobe perfectly. He thought you = would
want to know.

Dan Heaton went from relative obscurity to unicycling superstar, based = on the
new extreme video “UNiVERsE”. The best-selling unicycle video of = all time,
UNiVERsE has crowds forming around TV sets throughout the NUC = area. During the
NUC Public Show, Dan jumped from a staircase onstage = down to the floor, a
6-foot drop. The crowd went wild! Dan can now be = found attempting to enter his
room without being spotted by young = autograph seekers. Dan’s father has become
known as “Dan Heaton’s Dad” = and is also enjoying his new celebrity status.
“Dan’s Dad” also won the = 100 meter race for his relatively young age group!

This being Mark Stephens’ first trip to an NUC, he has been delighted by = the
many events. Mark won two 3rd-place medals for racing (no, not on = his Coker!).
One of the highlights for him was learning to idle from = kids in front of the
dorm. While attempting to mount a green Miyata = giraffe, Mark misstep and wound
up with a blue foot. Despite everything = he heard about Michigan weather, it’s
been absolutely sunny and cool.

This just in: Jack Hughes, age 14, has just been certified as a skill = level 7
rider. Congratulations, Jack! Jack’s quote: “Crashing big time = is all part of
the fun!” and “No, I’m not Dan Heaton!”

In anticipation of the MUni ride tomorrow morning, John Drummond has = been
searching for the Michigan mountains. He hasn’t found any yet, but = he’s
determined to keep looking throughout the night. John Foss = promised a fun
ride, and everyone knows that in order to MUni, one must = have mountains.
“Where’s the ski lift?!” he’s been saying…

On another subject, in spite of the Michigan mountain incident, John = Foss has
been named USA president for a second year. He still doesn’t = seem to know what
happened. He claims to have found, right here in = downtown Adrian, Mount
Michigan, Mount Minnesota, the Indiana Sand = Dunes, the Ohio Bluffs and the
Illinois Lincoln Log. The skill level = required for these rough-terrain
unicycling trails is still = undetermined, but “vicious” mosquitoes have been
known to carry off = small pets and novice unicycle riders.

This just in: A direct quote from Jacquie Foss, “Dorm livin’ ain’t the = life
for me!” and “We’re off to Cedar Point and a real hotel tomorrow!” = She wants
everybody to know “No, this isn’t our honeymoon.”

The Kowalski’s want us to know they prefer having the races after the = artistic
competition. The track this year claimed a number of victims.

Former USA President Dirk Iwema commented "The kids keep getting better, =
especially when a seven year old comes in seventh place overall in = Standard
Skill, beating out several “old guys.”

There you have it. More later, much later, at the 2001 National = Unicycle
Convention in Toronto!
