rolling mount - need help

Could somebody describe how to do the rolling mount for me? I’ve read the
description in the skill levels, and also Brett’s notes on unicycling.org,
but neither tells me where the seat is during the mount, and I’ve never
seen it done.

Should I be holding the seat UNDER me (between my legs), with the wheel out in
front, as I walk forward and do the mount, or should I be holding the seat in
front of me and mount and hop on in one motion?

Also, should I time it so my foot lands on the pedal in the same position (about
8 o’clock) that I do in regular freemount?

Get the skill level video, it’s probably on there.

Hold the seat ready to be sat on, and put it in place as you step onto the
pedal. 8:00 sounds about right for catching the pedal. Do it going slowly. At
first, just stop the pedal with your foot as your body continues to move
forward. When you pass the balance point, start pedaling forward. Don’t let the
wheel roll backward.

As you get more used to it, you can go faster and faster, and even run with
it. Also you can work it so the wheel never stops (but it always slows down when
you put your foot on, while your body catches up with the wheel).

Enjoy, jf

A rolling mount comes naturally to me and I find is a logical development to my
normal free mount. What I have noticed thought while teaching people to free
mount that there are basic styles done by unicyclists:
a) Mount then do half a backwards then go forwards
b) Mount then ride forwards straight away.

These are both quite common and both work for a standing free mount. To be able
to do a rolling/running mount you must be able to do mount b) quite competently.
The main difference between the 2 is the amounts is the weight that you put on
your first foot when when mounting. If you put a lot of weight on the first foot
and do not move forward at the same time then then you will execute mount a). To
do mount b) put as little weight on your foot as possible and step up onto the
unicycle as if you are walking up a flight of steps.

I hope this helps
