Does anybody else have problems with Roach DH Leg Armor? In an effort to balance the protection on the front, mine try to cut me off at my knees, slowly, from the back. 1 second worth of protection for an hour of low level pain. After 5 minutes the web of skin at the back of my knee is unhappy, after 20 minutes, it’s raw and oozing, after 30, bloody hurts (that’s it’s leaking red stuff and hurts not expletive and hurts for the UK people-censor ). The left side seems ok, but the right side, I have to put a bandage on each time.
I don’t believe I have the straps too tight, actually they’re pretty loose. How are the 2 straps at the knee supposed to run?
If you have a digital camera post a picture of how your Roach pads fit around your knee. Maybe you’re wearing them strangely. Or maybe you have a size that doesn’t fit you well. A picture would be worth 1000 words.
Since I am looking into getting some gear I am glad to hear this. Is anyone else having similiar discomfort. Has any tried both Roach and 661? Have you noticed a difference in comfort.

I had similar rubbing from my 661s - but not as extreme by the sounds of
it. Now I wear thin cotton(?) trousers under them. No problems since.
The trousers have the added benefit of hiding any lycra.
I know Alan’s had similar problems with his 661s and has successfully
used “linings” similar to John’s knee warmers.
Regards,
Mark.

I’m thinking of getting 661s. But I’m more concerned about overheating. I’ve seen people talk before about these things getting hot in the summer. Just how bad is it? Surely wearing trousers or anything else underneath them will make the heat problem worse. No?
It is true, they do get hot. However I haven’t found it a problem since getting mine. I’ve never worn them with trousers; I find shorts that come down to the top of the pads are ideal.

I always wear my 661s on bare skin (except for socks). In winter the
heat is not a problem. But it is quite spectacular if I undo the 661s
outside after a MUni ride: impressive steam clouds emanate from my
lower legs. In summer they are hot but I tend to not notice that until
immediately after the ride, not during the ride.
My 661s don’t hurt at all in the knee area (or anywhere else). They
don’t chafe, they don’t cut. I’ve used them for 1.5 - 2 hours on end
max. Never tried Roach leg armour.
I have been riding about 15 miles every day this week in 70 - 75 deg. weather and I have not even noticed that I the Roach Leg Armor on. This is the newer style with the knee donuts. I strap the bottoms fairly snug, then I do a loose fit on the top small strap, next I pull the two long straps crossed behind the leg the lower one is right near the inside bend in the knee. I’m 5’10" and have the xl size Roach Leg Armor which ride right on top of my hiking boots. Most of the time I feel they are overkill for commuting to work on a coker, but I have welgo b-27 pedals with sharp pins and I don’t like leaking.
Don’t wear shin pads untill you have scraped all of the nerves off of your
shins from crashing. Then go out and buy some roaches… you wont be able to
feel the heat at all.
