Riding advice.

Hi again.

Riding’s going really well after four weeks I’ve ventured outside recently (it
FINALLY stopped raining!) and it felt good. Free mounting successfully more
often than not (though only on the flat) and generally feeling like I was in
control of the uni rather than the other way round.

One thing I’d appreciate comments on… as a (bi)cyclist, I instinctively place
the balls of my feet on the pedals. I’ve read somewhere that on a uni it can
be better to use the arches - any reason?

No. I ride with the balls of my feet, except in long or hard climbs. You
probably haven’t gotten to that yet, so stay “on the ball”. It also helps to
have a good grip between shoe and pedal (especially if it’s raining)…

Stay on top, John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone http://www.unicycling.com

everything you know.

Re: Riding advice.

I tend to ride with the balls of my feet on the pedals when I’m doing what might
be called freestyle (learning skills on flat, level ground). This setup gives me
more control and allows me to ride more gracefully. When I’m trying to do Muni
off road, I usually put the arches of my feet on the pedals for more power. As I
recall, some of the Muni websites suggest riding with the arches of the feet on
the pedals. The Unicycle Page recommends learning to ride with the balls of the
feet on the pedals when attempting “seat-out” skills. I hope this helps.

On 11/12/00 6:39 pm, someone called John Foss suggested:

Now that I’ve noticed!
