Red bull

Well we are doing it! I have done 1 lap and my back hurts, knees and am a
little tired. Everyone but alan has been on the ride (Claire and Sarah are
out now). Most people are smiling, Rocket is grimising because he has
pulled a muscle or something. Times are between 1h3m (me) and 1h 45 (not
sure but that figure has been banded about). Paul is the next fastest so
far at 1h 15. Generally we are all doing well both teams are beating 2
mountain bike teams. I got pushed off on the first bend after a reasonable
run (they shortened the run this year!) which annoyed me (grumble, grumble,
grumble). I have several sores for being hit by trees. All fun.
Joe Marshall! is mad
He is still smiling and is 40 mins into his 4th lap. He took a 25min break
after the second lap to eat but is doing between 1h 25 and 1h 45 (he fell
and winded him self on that lap).

Got some photos but my phone wont allow me to upload them so will upload as
soon as I get home.

Mostly Cokers. I did 2 laps on the 29er (I think Leo, Joe M. and sarah
all did 1 on a 29er) and found it was about
the same speed as the Coker overall. I rode more and pushed
less with the 29er though.

Joe Marshall did well in solo going out again after being advised to stop with bruised/cracked ribs…but I’m sure he’ll tell us of his experiences…

Well done everyone those results are very good, hope you all recover quickly and that Joe Marshall’s ribs are OK.

some pictures of us at Red Bull at

Rider number -1 gets lots of us as they couldn’t see our number boards,

there’s one of me under my number (2016) pushing the coker and several
under -1, I can’t remember everyone else’s number to look them up.

I took the coker out for my first lap, after much humming hawing about
which to use. Leo had come in from his lap saying, take the coker ( he
had been spinning like crazy on his 29er) , so I did. OK time, in fact a
great lap, I really enjoyed it, rode more than I expected to and had a
blast, 1hr.38 on the clock .

Lap 2. 3am. I took the coker again, BIG mistake. i’m not good in the dark
and i was really slow, couldn’t ride as much as in the light, suffererd
badly from lack of fuel and sleep. took a monterously long time, well over
2 hours.

Lap 3. start time 1.30pm, this was to be our teams final lap, hoping to
drag us one place up the rankng by getting more laps than the MBR team. I
took the 29er out, I was suffering quite badly from lack of sleep and too
much carbo gunk. Managed to ride pretty much all I had on the coker and a
whole bunch more in the single track that i couldn’t coker. Time 1hr
40. So no real time difference for me between the two wheel sizes in day
light.

I was the last competitor to cross the finish line! It had been close as
I caught up with a buch of slow riders at the top of the final
assent. However having free-wheels they beat me on the final decent to the
finish line. It was nice to have the last two decents to myself tho, no
overtaking two wheelers shout RIGHT, or RIDER at me before zipping past a
hairs breadth away from my pedal. I could really enjoy the ride bouncing
over the roots and picking my line entirely selfishly.
