Recumbent unicycle images

The rec.bicycles.tec newsgroup has posted some images of a recumbent
unicycle–geared I guess–as a part of an April Fool’s Day thing.

The images are interesting.

RE: Recumbent unicycle images

Wow, very cool! I think this is only the second recumbent uni I’ve seen. Here’s
the first one: http://www.unicycling.com/garage/recumben.htm

You can tell the builder of this new one has been thinking. Unlike Eric Kolb’s
recumbent, this one has a chain guard. Every time you drop it (which should be
a lot, even for a unicyclist), the chain would otherwise hit the ground. Also
he’s got a wheelie bar in the back, to keep him from going dangerously over
onto his head.

Though a lot more comfortable, I still don’t know about the practicality of
recumbent unicycles for long rides. You can gear them up, and sip a soda while
riding, but they will never be easy to steer, due to the flattened-out position
of your body. But they certainly turn heads! I used to get lots of requests for
information on Eric’s recumbent. I wish I had gotten more time to play on it,
back at UNICON VIII…

Stay on top, John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone jfoss@unicycling.com www.unicycling.com

“Dad, I’m hypo-icecreamic.” – Woody Hooten, at the end of a long MUni ride
(Woody’s mom is a doctor, and this sounds like something his family developed on
long car rides when the kids were young)
