I had never had a truly negative reaction until late last week and again early this week.
I was riding (as I regularly do) on the beachfront promenade which is a shared path, and 99.99% of folk are courteous and considerate and as such I am always polite and friendly. But suddenly I’ve encountered a miserable soul who shouts at me to ‘ride on the road’. I’ve politely pointed out that the promenade is a shared pathway, but sadly she’s got a face like a smacked bottom and is very angry. Her friends however were very friendly.
I had an aerial silks injury/accident last night. Because of the accident, I rode my mountain bike to the train station this morning to go to work rather than a unicycle. Kid just down the road from the station (also on a mountain bike) said to me while I was riding “Do a wheelie”. I don’t know if he has seen me riding unicycles normally, but as it’s such an unusual comment, maybe he has…
Why you ride your normal Mountainbike? You can take a Mountain Unicycle, it’s much more fun I think.
Sorry to hear of the injury, Glad you can still ride regardless. You will be back !
Best quote, ever! (For me)
My wife just, out of the blue, said “You should probably go unicycle now, if you want to get a ride in today before it gets dark.”
That is officially the best comment ever directed my way, by a unicycle non-rider! ![]()
Well what are you doing here? Go unicycle before it gets dark!
Translation:
“I want some time to myself, the best way I can think of to get rid of you is to suggest a yike ride.”

Now, that’s funny!

So this morning I got my best comment ever… a rather drunk young man stood agog at the side of the path watching me and as I drew level with him he said “How the f@#k?!?”
I was quite pleased with that reaction.
Happy Xmas y’all
Out on a small round-about, it’s big-eating-day, here in Scandinavian, after all.
A pair of men were cycling with a grandchild on the steeringwheel. As I pass the man exclaims “Did you see that!?”.
It’s as wet and cold as it looks like. 0 degrees C’ and no wind. But not bad at all.
Yes, I see that. It’s a nice Unicycle what you ride in a nice wood.
Thanks.
Woman hiking past on a pretty rugged section of trail: “That is … BEYOND.” My favorite comment ever ![]()
Try commuting to class every day on a college campus. I’ve heard that and much crazier comments.
Same place, a day apart, while unicycling with our dog on a harness ahead of me.
Day one from a young child: “Mummy, Mummy, I just saw something very special!”
Day two from an older teenager: “That’s cool as f***!”
What a difference 12 years of education makes…
What’s the difference?.. I think they’re saying the same thing.
I took them to be saying the same thing, just very different vocabulary! People around here generally react very positively
Yesterday as I rode though the park, I passed within 40 yards of an outdoor basketball court with a game in progress. After I had ridden another 50 yards, I heard (loudly) “Quit recording the dude on the unicycle, and play!”
Entry of the Gladiators (Thunder and Blazes) The Classic Circus Music… enough said
So did you get the hang of it? I learned when I was 15 and then took a 40 year break. Now 6 years in, I have ridden my 36inchers many miles and in 15 parades.
