Header basically says it all: how does one pronounce “muni”?
moonie? or myoonie?
As I plan to start looking for parts with which to build one, I figured I ought
to know. Thanks!
Peter
ps: somebody was asking about learning to ride. Has anybody out there been in my
position? I knew how to ride about twenty years ago, from ages about nine
through twelve. But I haven’t been on one since. My uni-ing friend from that
time in my life said that he has since ridden one without problems; should I
figure that it’s like the platitude about riding a bike, or should I plan on
taking a long time to relearn? Sorry for the long ps–probably should’ve
been a separate post. 8^o

I went for about three years without riding. When I started again, I was
extremely wobbly for about five minutes, then only a bit unstable for half an
hour, then I was almost as good as before.

Get out there and ride!

P.S. Where are you? I’m in the Sacramento area. Anywhere near you?

Um, I don’t understand. Now we need to know how to pronounce “MUENI”. If the
umlaut is meant to separate the vowel sounds, this presumably makes it MOO-EHNY,
which is just weird. On the other hand, is it meant to be pronounced as German?
In which case I don’t know how to pronounce that either. Or is it meant to be a
guttural version of MUHNI, which I would probably spell MEUHNI?

Just in case anyone cares, __ _ here’s how I say Muni (myoo’ne).
|| | | _ -> ne sounds like the word knee
|| | __
|| |-> oo sounds like the o’s in boot
||
||-> y sounds like the y in yes
|
|-> m sounds like the m in mum
The “mu” in Muni sounds the same as the “mu” in the word “muse”.
The first syllable rhymes with __ _ the first syllable of unicycle
(yoo’ni-si-kel).

I’d say add an M in front of UNICYCLE (YOU-NEE-SII-KEL), but don’t change the
way the U of UNICYCLE is pronounced, we would thus have MYOU-NEE-SII-KEL. Thus
MUNI should be pronounced MYOU-NEE (myoonie).

Just imagine not having ridden a bicycle for twenty years. One can expect to be
very rusty and unsure of oneself, but it probably will only take a few minutes
practice to get one’s confidence back and be riding all over. However, it may
take a few weeks or even months of practice to regain one’s former level of
skill on the unicycle.
In essence, once riding a unicycle has been mastered, one never forgets how to
ride a unicycle.
I would say Mew-knee (-: Still if you adopted the term IKE instead of Uni,
you could say Mike… or if you said icycle it would become Micycle Ah
Ha ha hahah… ahem… sorry.
