Profile Hub & Cranks - Warranty Question

Okay, so Profiles have a lifetime warranty on the hub and cranks, and I was wondering, at what point do they replace parts? Is it bending the cranks (like i’ve done) or do you actually have to break them?

I believe that bending them counts. Incidentally the warranty only covers the splined part of the hub, not the body.

Really? That’s cool.

I could join the club of those who have broken profiles, however :sunglasses:

Can anyone definitely confirm this? Roger Davies perhaps? Or anyone who has had their profile cranks replaced under warranty?

Which is…who?

Wallinger broke his profiles in Universe 2, and I think Justin Kohse did the same in Defect…correct me if i’m wrong. Anyone know of anyone else?

I have seen 2 videos online with people snapping theirs, and a picture of Jon Childs broken i think

To get Profile cranks replaced you have to send them to the factory and wait till they get around to sending you a replacement, which may take several weeks (but they will). They will only replace the broken unit, not the set, and only in the same size as the one you broke.

If you ride on the rocks, everything will eventually break, so as Muni becomes more popular I can’t imagine that Profile will continue it’s lifetime warranty for much longer. You’d think DH mountainbikers wuld be even harder on cranks but who knows.

Ahh, that’s interesting about them only replacing one…thanks for that

I broke one of my profile cranks on my muni. I went through the bike shop that i bought the crankset from originally to get the crank replaced. They [profile] actually ended up sending me the wrong size crank than the one i had broken. So there was quite a bit of down time waiting for the right sized crank to come in. At least they stuck to their word about replacing cranks.

If you bought them from Unicycle.com then arrange to send them back to Unicycle.com (call or email them to get the needed info). They’ll handle the rest. Turnaround should be faster cause Unicycle.com will probably send you a replacement from their stock and deal with the replacement from Profile later.

The cost of the warranty is built in to the price. Notice how Profiles are more expensive than similar other brands? And remember that the cost to the factory is a lot less than retail for replacements. Now if every person who buys Profile cranks breaks them and gets Warranty replacement then Profile is going to have problems. But that’s not going to happen.

Sorry I am not really the person to ask on this one as we buy through Unicycle.com in the US and they deal with our warrenty issues.

From the way I understand warranties is that they normally go through the retailer. This may not be the case with profile cranks.

Unicyclists are proving to be harder on cranks than any other type of riders. I think the reason for this is that there is no frame or suspension to absorb the shock of a jump.

Before you go worrying about Profile’s warranty policy I’d suggest you install your Profiles correctly. A few spacers would help immensely with all that wobble you had at the NZUNi weekend!
