Profile going out of Business?

I got word from a bunch of BMXers just the other day that profile has had some bad book keeping and they plan on shutting their doors in the near future.

Now I havent heard much more than this so I dont know how valid the statement really is. But I thought I would start the rumor mill in here just incase something is bad in the state of denmark or profile rather.

Better get thoes replacement cranks soon boys, just in case.

:stuck_out_tongue:

But it’d be pretty easy for someone to start a rumour like this with absolutely no evidence. Personally I’m going to be optimistic about it because I’ve got Profiles and want the warranty to last. What happens with warranties when a company goes bankrupt? I was just guessing that they’d expire.

Andrew

because the company can no longer honor the warranty, it’s voided, I would assume.

Profile is a small company that caters to the automotive industry as well as making bicycle (and Uni) componenets.

i believe they primarily make gearing and chassis for baha racing or somthing along those lines. they are also a regular machine shop. dude started making crank arms and bottom brackets for his kids in the early eighties and everyone at the local track waanted them. the cranks were mass produced and went on to be the longest last ing and best design on the market for a long time.

alot of smaller manufacturing type businesses have been going lately, although things seem to be picking up near detroit, where my experience is limited to… so i guess it’s possible.

if anything their crank business is probably more profitable than the performance auto side of things. for some reason the enthusiast level of the cycling industry doesn’t see too big of a hit from poor economic conditions. i guess we’re all just too hard core to let skinny wallets stop us.

but with a business as diverse as profile, it would be tough to screw up bad enough to warrant exiting the industry.

at least i hope.

RE: Profile going out of Business?

Mike,

It’s not a good idea to pass along rumors before checking them out.
Profile Racing is on solid ground. They just moved to a much-larger
facility, invested in more equipment, and they’re enjoying substantial
growth.

If you want to read speculation, check out the tabloids. If you want
reliable information, go to the source.

quick! somebody buy one hub/crank set from the quick! The profit will keep them in business for another year or two!

John,

I wasnt trying to start a scare or anything with the profile rumor, I made sure I said explisitlly that this was simply a rumor and that there was no evedence to support it. I hope I didnt start a buying binge of people going out to swap up the last profile hubs there at the source.

Thanks for the Solid facts and I’ll be ordering my profile crank set shortley so I hope they are in business for years to come.

RE: Profile going out of Business?

No problem, Mike. Thanks for your reply. Typically, the phone does
start ringing after rumors like these, and we have to explain. We’d
rather be preparing orders for shipment, and keeping new toys rolling
out the door.

Best regards,
John
