My moment 140/165’s are drilled with four 3/4" holes each, and have taken a fair bit of abuse over the past year. At 6’, 250 lbs I’ve damaged a fair number of parts in the past and feel confident that my cranks would last quite some time for most folks.
Moments are totally overbuilt, you can drill the shite outta them, just don’t cut the entire center out of them and do big drops, and it’ll be fine.
I’d drill mine if I wanted to take the time.
Soif I drilled them I could keep doing 6ft drops
Dug this quote up from the past (here) to say…“bullshit.”
That stick of butter on the left, I mean crank, was an Echo TR (170mm forged 6061 aluminum). Didn’t take much twist it, unlike my old machined cranks.
Rattle-can makeover
The other day I bought a new seat and rim from UDC (Aus) and decided that if I was going to go to the trouble to build up a new wheel and change my seat as well I really should give the old 29er a bit of a makeover so I spent the weekend preping and painting and am pretty happy with the result. She looks almost new. For now.
^ Phwooar! Looks hot.
…if she would live closer i would like to have a date with her

well “franken Muni” loves late autumn and so changed shoes …
wow! whats the name of this “shoe”?
Hey Granpa, did you get the Ultralight casing on that HD?
I just ordered a 26 x 3.8 Knard 120 tpi, hoping it’ll get here before the weekend, it replaces my super heavy Larry 27tpi wire bead (1500gm) and an even heavier Devist8er (1600gm).
hope so: this is a light 45Nrth Hüsker Dü (it had to be because I carried it in my backpack on the plane)
now I need to get accustomed to it, for sure it is better on mud than Larry but need to fix the tyre pressure to right value …
There’s a LBS selling this Hüsker Dü, I just need to make a frame to fit it and then I’ll buy one! I have alot of choice of tire, but this one looks like it would be the best for snow riding and XC. I have a 26" wheel with a single walled 50mm wide rim. I dont want to go too fat with the rim yet as I still dont have a proper frame for the huge tire.
Here’s my girl in her finest moment thus far.
Not super fancy or top-of-the-line, but she’s mine and I lover her.
That looks like a unicycle that will be around for many years to come
that is a neat handle bar. whats the grip tape?
ROFL, I didn’t want to drop a bunch of cash on foam or cork grip tape that was gonna just get torn up, so I wrapped them with a few layers of electrical tape. Works like a charm. I don’t really need cushion or anything, and I haven’t had any issues with it being slick. When it gets chewed up, just wrap over it. The handle is a Coker Pi-bar.
I took out my street wheel on my Muni today, it looks pretty awesome, I didn’t go hardcore with it since we got alot of snow and I can’t see the trails! I think I’ll keep riding it for the rest of the winter… maybe end up with a Disk brake on that if it works well!
