From what I’ve seen, spray paint doesn’t last. Seems like it chips and cracks not too long after you do it. Might still try it though, we’ll see. The goal is to get it powdercoated here soon enough.
The good news is though, if you spray paint it yourself it is easy to repair a scratch or something. Of course, a powdercoat would still be better.
I picked up this 36" on Friday from the local classified ads for a mere $50. (I’m still pinching myself, afraid to wake up.) Amazingly, it doesn’t make so much as a creak while riding and all of the spokes look good.
Anyone have any guesses on whether this might be an original Coker Big One or some other brand? It does have a Coker tire, but not sure that means it’s also a Coker frame. I’m guessing it’s about 10 years old, based on some of the seller’s comments. If anyone wants a better picture of any part of the frame, let me know.
But more importantly than figuring out what brand it is, I have been having a blast riding this monster. I feel almost like a beginner again, with the frequent UPD’s, and inability to idle or free mount, but it has been a ton of fun.
Wow! That’s awesome.
Congrats Darth Elevator
(YCNHTMU’s)
( I like writing that )
What’s it say on the seat?
( Place bum here )
I think thats a viscount seat, so I guess it says viscount.
It is a old Coker
Shmolagin is right, it’s a viscount.
Ha ha! That one made me chuckle.
Correct!
Thanks for confirming.
I was kind of thinking the same thing. “This end up”.
Just the wheel
Well, not the wheel but the tyre. Picture shows the splitting that has appeared all over the sidewall rubber of my Nightrider. It is still young enough to have not worn off all its whiskers.
Two thoughts. Is it age rather than distance ridden on it that could do this, and is it likely to blow out on me whilst riding? I run it at 50/55psi max.
Anyone had similar experience?
Is be careful but it should be good
I don’t remember having heard about tires blowing out, more likely tube failure.
Do you store your uni outside?
Seems like an awful lot of cracking for a newish tire, could have been a bad batch of rubber, not enough UV protector or too much of a hardener.
Might be time for a tire “Made in Thailand”
The Viscount seats are, um, comfortable.
I replaced my seat on my old Semcycle recently with a Viscount. I can ride it for maybe a mile before I must get off.
This is really tyring
Few years ago several inches of beading on my 36 tyre parted from the main carcass and the tube exploded through the hole. Seem to remember someone else had the same experience. The UPD was not pleasant. Unicycle.com replaced the tyre and tube.
You mention outside storing. They are in a barn but how could this effect things? I have two other Nightriders and they show signs of a little cracking. Hmm…point taken on batch issues, after all, it has got Taiwan stamped on it
Big ride
Starting early, finishing late, on long distance ride this weekend so trying out some lighting.
Perhaps you just got a tire from the bottom of the pile and it’s a little older than the others?
Yeah, who knows. Roger at Unicycle.com did acknowledge the phenomenon, that may be UV sensitivity. Anyway, life goes on…
Included in this post a pic of the ongoing development to position the brake lever on my ‘stealth’ project. Decided to mount the lever on top and upside down. Still operating with my thumb.
Anyone trade a kh 26 for a Isis 36
