Hi,
Some friends of mine, including a man who has lost family and suffered imprisonment and torture by Indonesian soldiers, have been acting as advisers to the makers of a programme that is on this Friday. The programme is about West Papua, a country that is occupied by the Indonesian military. I’m trying to get as many people as I can to watch it because this is the first time that journalists (acting secretly and against a government ban) have got a substantial amount of filmed footage about the situation to be broadcast to the public. It’s part of a series called “Unreported World,” and it’s on this Friday, 7.35pm, Channel 4.
Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been killed, raped and tortured by the Indonesian military since the illegal invasion of the country in 1961. So please watch this documentary and get your friends to watch it, and then if you want to you can help: The government don’t care about ending this suffering, because they think that people don’t know about it or don’t care about it. If you write to your MP and to the foreign secretary (or email - www.theyworkforyou.com), telling them that you find the situation shocking and asking them to call for justice on our behalf, then maybe the human rights abuses can be put to a stop and a genuine and fair referendum can be held on the country’s future.
If anyone wants any more information then pm me or have a look at www.freewestpapua.org.
Thanks for reading,
Beth
