Playing inthe wood, access denied, hurump.

Paul and I took the munis down to some local woods today, to go looking
for some sweet single track that we know is in there somewhere. We headed
sraight over to the section we wanted to explore and blow me down , there
was an MTB race going on all over it. Hurumpf.

after seeking out the race director ( apparently the only chap who could
tell us which bits of the wood they were useing) we had to retreat to the
nortern parts which we already know quite well and has a distressing
shortage of good single track, one or two nice bits but no big linked
sections.

Ho Hum, so we went and explored a few not very good bits we hadn’t
bothered doing before,( now we know why and shaln’t bother again) and a
few good bits we knew and ride frequently. Did some of them in the other
dirction for a change.

It was nice to get out and the morning was rather geogous, but I wish the
MTBers had been there yesterday.

Ah, was that Warren Heath? If so you should’ve entered, those races are good
fun (26" wheel limit so no coker, but they’re much more 26" territory
anyway). They’re also good for discovering good bits of track, I found some
bits I didn’t know about at Swinley. I was going to go to that race but I
was hungover and tired and didn’t have a lift or the energy to ride myself
there from the nearest train station. I went for a long walk to a nice pub
selling thai food instead in the end.

I think at the last one a lot of people were riding the tracks just for fun,
just clearing out of the way when large groups of racers appeared and there
were people pre-riding the course during the earlier races, so probably
don’t need to worry too much about riding about where they are.
