Thanks corbin- it was great to meet and ride with you too! Not sure when i will be in the US next but when i do i’ll be sure to bring my Muni and get some serious riding in. Here is the next installment of pics.
Just a little info about the rides these picture were taken from.
The one in the forest was taken on a series of trails we rode in Nelson around the Dun mountain reserve. The 36km trail took us through temperate rain forest with lots of steady but rideable climbing with the occasional little creek crossing. It was cool and misty for this section of the ride and great conditions to gain lots of altitude. Then the trail broke out of the forest into alpine and relatively scrubby valleys where we did more climbing to Windy point and then continued onto coppermine saddle. From there it was all downhill in narrow chutes of orange rocks of various sizes that could throw you off you line in an instant if you were not careful. Some great technical riding was to be had until we arrived at a nice flowing river that we followed for a good few Ks before cutting over a saddle to get back to the car park. Ben tracked all our rides on his GPS so hopefully i can get that info off him once he gets back from NZ.
The one on the suspension bridge was at the base of Kirwans track (if you have the kennet bros book of NZ look it up) outside of Reefton. It is an old Mining track that climbs 1300m in 10km (the trip down just traces the way you came up). It starts off running up a valley alongside a really nice babbling river until it shoots up the hill in a massive and technical climb. Hardly any of this climbing was ridable and recent rains made the downhill a really slippery and boggy affair (but with a reduction in tire pressure and enough speed you could float over the really sloppy bits). The uphill was a massive slog but the Dh was totaly worth it!
First MUni since the rain stopped. Chantry was closed as I suspected; PD said it may reopen tomorrow. These are from Sullivan canyon. Lots of fun stream crossings and most of the water was flowing along side the trail, in its own carved out channels. What water there was on the actual trail was only a couple inches deep, but the drainage is so good, for the most part it’s hard to tell it even rained there!
I love to get the 36 on tarmac. I think I am fixed on road-riding as I don’t seem to be using the 26" MUni much. Oh well, time might tell.
Couple of shots taken from the road side. One pic taken straight into the sun of the railway and pedestrian bridge out of Barmouth, Wales. The other a vista of the estuary with Cader Idris enveloped in early morning fog and mist.
Hi, my first one here… I’ve been riding on the snow since Christmas and it’s a lot of fun for me
Unfortunately it’s hard to get a photo of myself riding so just the landscape and my uni
I guess these are tecnically oldies. This inspires me to go out and get some new uni pics. I just ordered a nimbus nightrider on Friday for my cross-country ride. Maybe i’ll post a pic or two of me UPDing on Monday
From today’s FL Muni Meetup. Nothing XTREEM in this set, but fun was had by all.
Matt blasting down the path,
Jarrett hanging out waiting for us slowpokes,
Ed rolling in from farther down the trail.
Ryan cruising through the flatwoods.
Steven, having successfully navigated a stretch of palmettos, sand, and half-buried roots.
Steven (not out-of-focus; he’s just moving THAT FAST - although, by some trick of physics, his left foot appears to be completely stationary) with Susan hot on his heels.
Had a fun ride in Panama last weekend with Juan M. He brought his kids on 2-wheelers and we cruised down Pipeline Road from Gamboa. Nice shady road with a few hills and a lot of howler monkeys and toucans.
