Two photos of Transalpina in Romanian mountains, where I finally managed to climb the main pass, which I missed on my RomUni trip 6 years ago.
An expensive skill then. ![]()
a little park near the house, just a 3 mile circle but it’s very nice to ride, mostly shaded and has a nice tidal creek on both sides.it is about 2/3 sidewalk style and 1/3 hard pack gravel and dirt
Latest Ride
I had a set of issues with the left knee in 2005/2006 -Torn miniscus, Excised tumor, Synovectomy, aggressive radiation. Radiation accelerated the degradation of that knee to the point it was gunnysack by spring 2018 with some growths reappearing.
It was really good for 12 years or so after the medical events of 2006. Did the STP with Joe Myer and quite a few times more, and did STP on a Bike. Rode some great terrain with Greg Harper, Bruce Dawson, Tom Blackwood, The Noli, Tom Blackwood and others in Seattle Area Riders
I got greenlighted pretty swiftly to deal with all the medical issues and get a new knee
There was a lot of complications to clean up and deal with beside the knee replacement, so the cutting got excessive for those reasons.
Anyhow, got all that squared away and got the knee replacement, did all my P.T. on time, everytime, got off the pain killers, went back to work and incrementally making it all work better all the time
Did some good rides in July Near Tonasket, Wa. and on the way back hit the Iron Horse Trail
Mid July I drove support on STP for a coworker that I did some projects with up in Gaspe Penninsula, Quebec. He finished STP in one day
I saw a Kelly Hickman, a really excellent Unicyclist, on his way to completing the STP at several points on the first day and he crossed the 2019 STP Finish Line about 6:30 PM Sunday. I believe that makes Kelly Hickman the 6 th Unicyclist to finish the STP in 40 years.
Here are some pics of Kelly Hickman at mile 42 with the policeman thinking about arresting the dude because it should be “illegal” to be so cool!
Some pics of Kelly crushing “The Hill” and then he had to remount at the light at the top of "The Hill’ and he nailed the remount on the 36’r like a boss, which is tough after that incline and then he was stuck in the “crush” of the pack trying to relaunch on the back of an albatros KH 36 inch Uni. He was looking sharp and representing us all hella good.
Kelly looks like Clark Kent…Rides Uni like Superman and was looking Bulletproof on the STP every time I saw him
I saw another random Unicyclist on STP that is headed to Florida from The Seattle Center Space Needle in support of First Responders and Veterans. I spoke with “Rhino” at about 140 mile point on STP. Rhino has Instagram or Twitter and maybe on some FB Uni Groups…if you want to check out his ride
.. .
Misprint
I spelled Joe Myers name wrong…flubbed that one…sorry Joe
digitalhippie
I love that shot, very cool and you just fit right in
Sounds like their latest ride was a lot more exciting than mine ![]()
Hmm not sure how to make the image show
Hi Fezder, your wheel lacing looks asymmetric. Was that on purpose?
Workshop
Our club did a workshop at the Museum of Transport and Technology yesterday, we had about 120 first time riders throughout the day. Only one person had ridden before and there were three that were riding before end of day. Rounded up a few prospects for club.
I’d go for the tricycle ![]()
On my travels on country roads I often find useful things. My higher point of view and slow speed lets me see more then most road users. I’ve found miscellaneous tools and other interesting things. Today I found a ladder that likely fell of someones truck and ended up out in the weeds off the road. A handy tool carried home a few miles on the uni.
I think ur just saying that, because you always use a ladder to get onto your uni. ![]()
You took the words right out of my mouth … ![]()
JimT, and does your wife always say “Now what have you bought home?”
That is pretty good that you were able to mount while holding onto the ladder, and then being able to ride with it. I suppose it could have doubled as a stretcher if you had a bad upd. Great find.
No, she is used to it, as long a I don’t bring it in the house and can’t see it from the house;)
