Pictures of your latest ride continued

Great ride via the canal here in Bath, round through a small village called Monkton Combe and then back through the “Two Tunnels” (2.5km combined).

These tunnels have nice ethereal violin / cello music pipes into it during the deep middle section.

Makes for a cool experience overall.

Happy to have handled the low lighting and chilly ride all in high gear :grinning:

The trick is to make it metric  .

I used to ride my (imperial) age every year, but one year I just hadn’t been active enough and I DNFed. Haven’t done it since but I really should.

Nothing as impressive as Jim’s ride of course!

Riding with my dude alongside the Huangpu River. The view is spectacular! It’s a shame when we stop to take a photo it’s too late that most of the lights were shut off.

Passing by a meteor crashing to earth?.. in Sydney

I didn’t know they’d managed to make a metric year now – that must have taken some doing with planets and stuff

After the French revolution there was some years with 10 hours a day, each hour was 100 minutes and each minute was 100 seconds. Also the months had each 3 weeks with 10 days. The surplus days up to 365 (366) days were “extra days” (don’t know the proper English word).
So it has been tried. Until Napoleon changed it back.

PS. This was an answer to DrD about a metric year …

Decimal time and not only do I have a decimal watch, I am wearing it right now.

The time I took this it was approximately 5:72 (1:44PM / 13:44)

I had some vague thought that something had been tried out but didn’t know those details for sure. That is maybe something to thank Napoleon for!

I seem to remember something about a metric working week being tried out but it didn’t go down too well – basically because “they” got more time/work out of you.

Well that is something I didn’t know existed… I see I can get a decimal time face for my Apple Watch, I think I’ll pass though…

Well that looks like a… time gauge

Fittingly so the name of the suburb is “The Rocks” Love the little crushed ford festiva

Yes and the day gauge shows that it was just over 57%.

P.S. Here is a picture from a recent kid drop off, so that I don’t get banned for being wildly off topic!

[My kid is not present in this picture. That is one of my unicycles, though I am very fond of it too.]

I don’t think it’s off topic. I mean, a watch is essentially a unicycle.

I’ve been enjoying hill climbing at some of the popular cycling hills around Sydney, but with the Bobbin Head climbs, the severe road camber in a few corners did not make for an enjoyable ride. Usual grade was 5-6% so it was ok on the straights.

That looks like a beautiful trail to ride!

I love tunnels! Would love to have seen a pic of the inside of the tunnel, but I suppose it may have been tricky in such low light.

Awesome pics.

As a hill climber, I learned if you have a Nightrider tire, riding on cambered roads is challenging. The non-skid (off road) Coker tire, if you can find it and get one sent to Australia, has a curved profile and makes riding on cambered roads much, much easier.
