First long ride of the year at 52km with my lack of winter practice and a 26kmh headwind for the first half and last quarter.
I took a new route I’ve not been down before on 3km of gravel and mostly paved country roads to a small town and back with a lunch stop.
We get these fake lakes in springtime in the countryside on Ontario where flat farms field become small lakes. Deep enough for waves and to splash around but not deep enough for a kayak or anything.
They tend to go away quick so it was nice to see them on the first 17°C day so far.
It was my first ride testing my new 4kg 29" with 90/114/140 cranks. The headwind was a bit easier with the lighter uni but I have not had 30km+ ride since November. You can have the nicest gear, but if the motor sucks you’ll be slow. I changed out to the 114 for the first time but it made it possible to chip away at the distance to home.
Surprisingly I was able to keep a 15kmh average, and my new record in perfect conditions has been 17.1 with the new uni.
Numbers for the nerdy folks
