Pedals to cranks

Hey,

What I’d really like to learn is to ride my uni then stop and transfer to the cranks, try some tricks then transition back to pedals and ride off.

At the moment i can ride and transfer to seat in front hops, on the pedals.

But i really have no idea how to transition to the cranks. I know a little hop from pedals to cranks is the way to go, but the thought of that terrifies me.

Does anyone have any tips or pointers to get over this mental block?

Cheers

Put some shin pads on, and wear wider shoes helps with confidence when landing. Also what tricks are you planning on learning?

It only takes tiny, tiny hops. I practiced SIF backwards today and just did it the other way around: moving my feet from the cranks to the pedals, then start riding. Sometimes I didn‘t even move the whole foot at a time. Instead I rotated the toes to the pedal while leaving the heel on the crank. The next step was obviously to move the heel away from the crank.
Maybe you could try something along those lines (probably more difficult to do from the pedal to the crank than the other way around). But I would go with tiny, tiny hops, only 1-2cm high. That way your feet are almost immediately back on the pedals / cranks and there‘s almost no time for bad things to happen (fingers crossed).

I agree with Wheelou that just sliding the feet over a bit usually works, but you should have the cranks near horizontal. Granted I have 89mm cranks on my freestyle which makes the distance much shorter, but I can slide my feet from pedals to cranks very quickly and easily. For example, I do my side mount from the crank and then immediately slide the foot to the cranks and ride. I guess you could hop and it would be a step towards other tricks, but I don’t think it’s yet necessary.

Thanks,

I’d like to learn to push mush and rolling wraps.
But first i’d be happy to leg wrap from riding into one.

Thanks and i’ll give it a try!
I was practicing while holding a wall but doing largish hops and was feeling unsteady while landing. So i wasn’t very confident trying without support.
