I’m interested in one as a pusher for a snow plow, to keep a couple miles of the Fox River Trail clear. One of my friends invented a bicycle snow plow, but it has some significant performance limitations (it’s pulled by a bike!)
I’m thinking one of the heavier euro pedal cars might work well as a ultra-torque-ey pusher. Just pushing a shove, w/o mechanical advantage won’t work, since we’re talking about miles of trail. I’ve shoveled it by hand and … it’s hard.
I can’t see how this is going to be better than a bike, a nice bike is going to be better at extracting max power from you than a pedal cart designed for kids, and presumably if you’re that bothered about clearing bike paths you’re pretty in to biking. I guess if it weighs more then you’ll get more grip. Is it that you don’t mind sweeping slowly, but you want to be in comfort? Or were there stability issues with the bike plow?
mmm ya it wouldn’t be so bad if they had good wheels on them but the frame layout inset destined to get match power out with a bike u can stand up and pettel and ur right above the pettles with that thing u cant get enough power to plow throw snow but ide still try it ya never no timj
If you were to try this, there would have to be some mods. I actually still have a kettle-car hanging in the basement from when I was 3, and I can’t think of pushing anything at all with it. You would have to immediately change the gearing in the rear axle, somehow move the seat back further, and although I believe those are pnumatic rubber tires in the picture, you should get some wider ones from a hardware store. With the longer cranks, you would need more lift on the front to keep your ankles off the ground…larger front tires too.
If you were to go through with these changes, I believe it would be quite and interesting contraption. When you look at the cost to perform all this, it would most likely be cheaper to buy a used lawn tractor and put a plow in front of it.
