My Pashley seat is falling apart and I want to replace it with a Viscount,
available from DM unicycles. However this requires a different seat post to the
original and he asked me if the Pashley is 25mm or 1 inch diameter. I do not
have a micrometer and it is difficult to judge with a tape measure! Does anybody
know the answer? My Muni is a current model, only about 4 months old.
I had a local bike shop weld a used “regular” bike seatpost to my Miyata seat. I
don’t have a micrometer, so I can’t tell you the exact diameter of the
seatpost–but the bikeshop matched the Pashley seatpost. It is extra long so
that it has more surface area to prevent any movement, and works with my long
legs. I recommend it as a low-tech solution.

I couldn’t tell you which one, but there are 25.4 milli-meters in an
inch. Hope this helps. Also .4 milli-meters shouldn’t make a whole lot
of difference between the two posts. Am I wrong in saying this??
It costs a bit of money, but I had a machinist make me a set of standard rails
that replace the old welded seatpost attachment on my Miyata seat. This way you
can fit any sized bicycle seatpost you want, including seatpost shocks if your
MUni seatpost tube is big enough, and you can also adjust the angle of the seat
to whatever is most comfortable.

Have you had a look at your existing seat post? I’m fairly certain that my old
one had it stamped on there somewhere - probably by the limit mark.

Yes. There’s very little movement in a seat-post clamp. The three sizes of
seat-posts are a right pain in the, well, wherever.
The symptom of a mis-matched seatpost/clamp is that even if you do it up tight
it still creeps. This is because it will be clamping at a point, which wears
into the post, rather than on concentric faces.
You can shim with a slice cut from a coke can (or similar), which is easy and
cheap, though be careful you don’t cut yourself with the edge of the shim - it
makes a nasty ragged cut. Decent kitchen scissors will cut a drinks can (though
how long they remain decent if you do it repeatedly is probably debatable).

Be warned the 0.4 will make a massive difference and will not clamp properly at
that difference.
There are 3 sizes fitted to pashley unicycles, none as far as I know are 25 or
25.4. The Muni’s have a 25.8. If you pull it all the way out I believe it is
stamped on the bottom section.

Thank you professor, the best solutions are usually the simplest… I pulled
it all the way out and it did indeed have 25.0 stamped on it. I am now back in
action with a new seatpost and lovely YELLOW saddle!
BTW do not attempt to repair a Pashley saddle with an arc welder - the foam
inside melted away to nothing leaving a large cavity!
If it’s of any help, the way that I solved my Pashley Muni seat problem was to
cut the seat mounting bracket off of the post and then weld a Viscoun/Schwinn
seat bracket (previously cut from an old Schwinn post) onto the Pashley seat
post. This is the only real true way to solve the problem. Do not try to shim,
or clamp a smaller OD post onto the unicycle as it will distort, bend, break, or
(if nothing else) rotate too easily when turning. This was a very clean
modification (looked good), was easy to do, and is very strong. Anybody with a
wire feed welder can do the job if you don’t have access to one. Mike Payne
