Paint Balling

Who here paintballs? I need to know what to get for paintballing, I already know I need the gun and mask, but I need to know about protective gear, i.e. gloves, body armor, etc… A girl I know has no one to paintball with so I thought I’d look into it and get some stuff, heheheh  She’s going to the Marines, so I’m gonna give her some practice, HAH! Anyway, any info would help, maybe I’ll teach her to unicycle and we could paint ball that way, I’ll have some video tape it… SWEET!

So yeah, gimme info! I’m probably gonna get the stuff from Walmart, so whatever, I’m cheap plus it’s nothing serious… the paintballing… duh!

I’m just starting paintballing too, All you need if your just gonna mess around with it is old clothes that cover all of the skin, some people go shirtless, but that really hurts. I’m gunna where my uni gloves for it. I found that the guns are cheaper at paintball stores rather than wallmart. I’m looking into getting a used Spyder AMG LCD does anybody have any thoughts about it.

Ive been paintballin once. Its so much fun. Except its such an expensive hoppy. Its like 20 bucks all the places around here and like 50 if your rentin gear. How much is it around your guys area?

If you have your own gun it’s 10$ for field use, and 10$ for 100 balls, but YOu’ll go through way more than that, depending on how long you play and how experienced you are, or trigger happy. thursdays are half price at paintball city. and if you have your own gun you can just ball in the forests near you and construction sites.

My lady friend and I are planning to go out to my friends horse ranch thinger and do it out there… painballing >_< So really, it’ll be free, all I have to do is buy the gun, balls, and gear.

And still, I have no clue what to get, I think I’m gonna look online or sumthin’, but all they tell me is to get this stuff that’s really expensive and yeah… my cat just went poop, it stinks really bad…

Anyway, so yeah, clothes that cover everywhere, gloves, a mask, and what else? Chest plate thinger?

Not that I’ve ever been paintballin myself…Though I want to. But I know tons of people who do it. Even 2 guys who play for a course, and in tournies. Anyways Do not buy anything Wal-mart for paintballing except for like a mask…but do not buy their Balls, or their guns. The brand is like Brass Eagle and the Pro guys I know said they are crap and not even worth buying. and they are like $50 and you can get a pretty good one for like $125…also A mask will cost you around $50. And then you will probably want gloves. And if you’re a real wimp you can wear body armor, But that’s if you have a really low pain tolerance.

My cousin runs an indoor paintball field. He supplies coveralls, guns, gloves, face mask and paint. The coveralls are good because they are relatively protective but are thin enough that you can get a pretty good welt from getting hit head on. I’ve used a heavy jacket before, but I am a way bigger fan of using coveralls. I don’t bother with any other armor.
My cousin uses armor, but he’s pretty hardcore and gets into big competitions with his gun that shoots somewhere around 16 rounds/second. When you’re up against people with similar markers (not only are they fast; these guys are fricken accurate), armor becomes a necessity.
I’d say unless you plan on competing and really getting into the sport, armor other than a face mask and gloves is not really necessary.
I personally wouldn’t go shirtless.

I’ll probably just use baseball gloves or my leather work gloves, I’ll get a helmet/mask from Walmart if they are cheap, I’ll buy balls from Walmart or other store in or around my town, and armor will be a shirt, pajama pants, overalls, and a sweater… prays I might just get some camoed stuff, that stuff is pretty thick, the jacket and pants, yummy!

1,000 balls at Walmart cost around $27, good, yeah?
The mask they sell is a little under $20 and another is $30

Hehe…I actually will not see them till late spring or early summer. Because they live in Alfaretta, GA. Sounds like an ok gun to me. BUt then again I wouldn’t know.

On the side, I will note that his marker and hopper/feeder cost him nearly $1500; probably soon to be 2 grand (he keeps spending more on upgrading it). His electronic trigger is probably a few hundred bucks. I remember him handing me his marker to try it out one day, his trigger is so sensitive that the vibration from just handing it to me sent 2 rounds off. his feeder was another probably another few hundred bucks, and is capable of feeding at a rate even more ridiculous than the rate his gun fires at (semi-auto/3 rnd burst).
Not really necessary for just a fun day with some friends. I’d count on spending $100-150 on a marker that is accurate enough and fast enough for some good fun.

Hey, I’ve been a paintballer for a few years now. I now have an assortment of markers larger then my collection of uni’s. Here are my recommendations:

You have two choices for guns, the Spyder or the Phantom. Both are great, but very different. The Spyder is a semi-automatic. This means that you don’t have to cock the gun between shots. It is a favorite among beginners. It is a great gun to waste paint and air on. I have a few of these and they have served me well. I don’t know all the models they have now, but i’m sure you can find one you like. I would suggest getting one with out an electronic trigger. I’d hate to have to stop playing because a battery died.
Spyders usually run from $50 to $300. I’d stick to the low end, they are all about the same on the inside. Just be sure not to get the Sport model, or any other with a plastic body. The Victor is sold at Sports Authority for $50-$70 once in a while, and I like mine.

The other gun, the Phantom, is what I use now. It is a pump action gun, meaning you have to pump it to pump it to cock between shots. It uses much less air because the gun doesn’t use any air to cock, and it uses less paint because you can’t shoot it as fast. This gun is very simple and very lightweight. On top of that, it is very quiet. Think of this as a sniper pistol, and the Spyder as an M-16.
The phantom also varies in cost. I would suggest getting a stock class Phantom. This means it only loads 15 balls at a time and has a 12gram quick change. It will teach you to pick your shots wisely and be a better shooter.

Both guns are great for their price and will be very reliable as long as you take care of them. I strip all of my guns down after I play to wash and oil them. As far as jamming, I have never jammed a ball in a Spyder (although my friend has jammed a ball in mine when he froze the bolt). The Phantom is a bit harder because of the manual pumping, but you get used to it.

As far as masks go, the JT Spectra is the best mask for the price ($50-$80). Be sure to get one with a thermal lens. Thermal lenses are actually tow lenses with a sealed air chamber in between. This helps keep the lens from fogging.

There are many other guns out there. Most of them cost way too much in a sport where skill is much more important. I have taken out people with my $100 spyder who were playing with multi-thousand dollar guns. Get better before you shell out the big bucks.

Good luck at paintballing. It’s a great sport.
