The article “One-Wheeled Wonders” was published in “The Wheelmen”, November
1995 issue. The author, Charles Meinert, based the article in part on fifty
patents dated 1869 to 1912 that he had researched. Some of the early machines
were just called velocipedes without any use of the term unicycle or monocycle.
