I know it’s probably a fairly small sample from which to extrapolate the data, but I find the demographics interesting. For example;

Standard hub; 25% in UK, 63% USA, 12% Canada (No others in the rest of Europe)

Muni hub; 37% Germany, 26% USA, 5% UK, 31% rest of Europe

Considering that this is predominately an English speaking forum, I’m pleasantly surprised by the results here from the Germans, Dutch, Austrians and Swedish for the Muni hub. But it does make me wonder if there are more European owners of the standard hub? And why has the new hub been so successful on the continent? And of those sold in the US, why is the standard hub predominantly on the East Coast, but the Muni hub is West Coast?

STM

Regarding the Germans and Austrians: that thread was started by a German who made some marketing for it in the German forum (see this thread). Additionally there’s quite an active Schlumpf hub discussion ongoing in the German forum (see here), so most of the German and German speaking Schlumpf riders are tuned at the moment.

Florian Schlumpf is Swiss based, i.e. in the middle of Europe. He is quite active promoting his hubs at European events. I know from German dealers that they could sell more of these hubs if they only would get some. But Florian is not able to produce them fast enough. So there are several people preregistered and waiting for a hub currently.

I know of at least three other Schlumpf hub owners on the East Coast (specifically, the tri-state area). One is a woman named Karen who just got a muni hub. Another muni hub was bought by Krashing Kenny, but he sold it to a member of my club a couple weeks ago, essentially unused. The third is owned by a 10-year-old boy from my club who has it set up with a 24" wheel.

I thought it would be something like that

Yeah, I know of two others too. Both of my team mates from Ride The Lobster. I’d have expected them to have updated the list by now…

STM

And I know of at least 3 more hubs in Germany. Maybe their owners do not want to make it public.

Like David Stone said, I sold my hub. It’s now in Southern CA. I hope the new owner is enjoying it. That hub is: M081, but I’ll let the new owner post to the list.

BTW Since I was selling, I asked Florian about the hub warranty. It is transferable. :sunglasses:

My muni hub 034 was in a Nimbus 36 before the 24" wheel. Chuck and I got our hubs from the same shipment to the USA at about the same time.

Unfortunately, hub M068 just recently had bearing failure (again), and I’ll have to send it back to Florian. I’ve also switched out several hubs with Florian, and I think I’ve had about 4 different hubs go through me.

corbin

Reading this last post, I think I will hang on to buy a Schlumpf/KH hub later on when they are flawless…

I should have been more specific on my details.

My last two hubs had bearings that came from a bad batch; Florian believes that is why they were failing.

New hubs have bearings with tighter standards. My muni hubs are newer – Louise and I have 400 or 500 miles on that hub without a problem, and we are taking them to africa for 550km of riding starting this week.
