disk brakes…would work and i believe its been done or is being done and hand shifter may work.
i was think for th shifter a little lever push up shifts up psh down shifts down
Hand shifters have a cable. Bike deraileurs don’t spin around fast. Unicycle hubs do. You do the math.

Hang on… bicycles have hub gears with cable shifters. The cable pulls on a non-rotating linkage that pokes out the centre of the hub’s axle… Any reason a unicycle hub gear shouldn’t work like this too?
