New uni record on Mt. Washington??

I have heard that today the old uni record on Mt. Washington was broken. Not sure of exact time yet, so I am hoping that the unicyclist that broke it will fill us in.
I also heard that it was the perfect day for Mt. Washington, calm winds, warm temps, and no moisture. Ned Overend at 54, just missed winning by seconds, that guy is totally incredible.
Anxious to find out uni time.

Wow, cool, must have been Eric (unless there was more than one uni this year). I know he was training hard and earlier raced the Whiteface and Equinox hill climbs, probably the 2nd and 3rd hardest after Mt Washington.

Aspenmike - you had the previous record - right? You going to sign up for next year and reclaim your title?

Yes, to #1 and No to #2. , to many mountains, not enough time to repeat. That is an expensive 1 hr 45 minutes. My favorite part of that whole trip was Vermont! (riding all the gaps and notches) (and chillin with Tyler Hamilton and Ned Overend on the summit) (and getting blown off my wheel on Mt. Washington) This year the weather was blaaaaaaaahhhh, not your epic Mt. Washington weather.
Records are there to be broken, congrats to Eric. Still not sure of his time though, so not official yet. I was hoping he would let us know by now.

I have an email to Eric pointing him to this thread. Hopefully he’ll post here.

I found the website w/results, but just a few top finishers are posted w/the rest to be posted soon.

Given Eric’s 1:09 on Mt. Equinox last month (5.2 miles, roughly same steepness), if he kept that same strong pace for MW’s longer 7.6 mi. he’d be in the 1:41 range, a few minutes in front of Mike’s 1:45. When I chased Roland up Equinox, I didn’t feel like had another two and a half miles left in my tank - extrapolating MW times where just a easy, meaningless calculation.

So, record or not, way to go Eric Scheer!

The results are up. Eric’s not listed as a unicycle entrant, and his time was 2:12:10.

So, Mike, your 1:45:27 record stands, as does Ben Plotkin-Swing’s 2nd best uni time on MW, at 2:00:11.

OMFG, no way. Both the mens and womens bike records were broken on a nice weather day, not last Saturday though, word was it was maybe to hot. I thought it had a chance to be broken, with Eric training as hard as he did. Congrats to Eric for representing very well.

OK - Eric is having trouble logging on here, so he sent me this email of his writeup:

Nice write-up, and well done! For some masochistic reason I’d really like to try one of those mountain climb races. Perhaps one day I’ll make it over to the States and give it a go…

Rob

I agree, nice write-up and congratulations! Record or not that is some feat! We don’t have big enough mountains (really just big hills) in my area to have these types of rides. I’d love to come up to the northeast to give one of these events a go someday. I’m a pretty good climber when it comes to running (actually my strength) so perhaps this could translate into uni hill climbing? I’ve made it up some pretty steep roads around here, but we’re not talking about the distances you guys are doing! Bravo!

Great ride Eric! I should have seen this coming when you emerged as such a strong climber in the final days of ride the lobster. I didn’t anticipate that you as a Rhode Islander would have more juice left in your legs than me the Vermonter. You obviously have the Mojo… and Rhode Island must be hillier than I’ve always thought!

I admire your determination. How many riders have done Washington on a uni anyway?

Bill

Fantastic Job Eric! If I’d known you were doing the climb I would have tried to get there to be part of the cheering crowd. I climbed/hiked-on-foot a few west-side trails to the summit back on Aug 6th and that was enough of a adventure for me. I think about all of you that I had a chance to talk to during the Ride-the-Lobster race. I’ll never get near your level, but your accomplishments keep me working towards getting just a little better every time I go out. Finally being able to ride ~1 mile without a dismount, and ride almost 5 miles in 1 outing is feeling good for me. Thanks for the inspiration you and the other RTL riders continue to provide.

Eric, great write up & killer ride! Reinforces my love/hate feeling towards hillclimbs!

Congrats on a successful ride! Having lived in New Hampshire & Quebec for 30 years, my knees ache just reading about it

Another climb?

I’m seriously considering the Whiteface Foliage Climb, Sept 13, 2009. Anyone else up for it?
