Can I ask that it is not posted to the newsgroup? Here in the UK many (possibly
most) people pay for their internet connection on the basis of volume (normally
indirectly - paid to the telecom company rather than the internet provider).
Posting a binary encoded document is likely to consume bandwidth. Please can a
reminder of it’s availability and location be posted instead?
The acrobat format is becoming widespread, but is a long way off universal - I
do not know of a reader for this machine, for example. (Certainly, there
aren’t any on that url, and adobe are unlikely to release source code for me
to port…)

Yes, I agree that a notice of its availability is more appropriate. I was
concerned about people who do not have ftp or www access, but there are email
interfaces to ftp and www that can be used.
So, issues of “Unicycling International” will NOT be posted on
rec.sport.unicycling, but their availibility and location will.

I disagree. Not posting large binary files makes sense, but issues and info
concerning UI are of great interest to the newsgroup and mailing list
subscribers. I think that such messages should be posted, as should Unicon
VIII stuff.
How much do yo uall know about Unicon VIII? There is very heavy discussion going
on at iuf-discuss@winternet.com, but very little in the newsgroup. I believe
that all important info should go to both. BTW, you are welcome to joiun
iuf-discuss.

It is generally considered unacceptable to post binary files to usenet
discussion groups, for many reasons - the main one in my view is that this is a
discussion group, not a publishing forum - a newsletter in a proprietary binary
format is definitely not appropriate, though sometimes ASCII versions can be
produced, and people do not mind that.
if it can’t be read by all the newsreaders, then it should not be posted on the
newsgroup.
the WWW is a perfect place to publish newsletters however…

I agree with both of these - that is, I think that binaries should not be
posted, but if the content of the newsletter can be extracted and posted as
plain text, I would be very pleased to see it.
Regarding which machine doesn’t have acrobat (a question asked by Ken F, but
chopped out of the above quote) it’s a PC that runs Linux (like unix, but free)
and I can’t find a reader for it on the adobe pages.

What helped me was learning how to ride backwards and how to idle at the
same time.
What helped me greatly in both of the above was to ride slowly down ramps
and hills. This helped me develop the back-peddling control required in
these skills.
Riding backwards up a slight incline also really helped improve my backwards
riding skills. Fighting the incline made me much more stable initially, and
helped prevent the runaway falling backwards feeling.
