New beginner here

I’m hoping to be a new rider in the Bay Area California. I’m trying to determine the best uni to start off with. I’m roughly 6’ with a 33” inseam. I’m hoping I can start off with a 20”, but with my inseam it’s looking like I may need to go 24. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I’m roughly your size and started on a 24”. In retrospect I would have been fine on a 20”.

I started on the 16" 3 years ago, and my inseam was probably like ~23.
Now my inseam is ~28 and I ride fine on 28" and 20".
Both 24 and 20 are good starter sizes, but with the 24 you’ll probably get more use out of it.

I’ll say as long as you have the right length seat post, both a 20” or a 24” will work well. :slightly_smiling_face: I’m standing around a similar height and inseam and a 20” feels just fine to me. Haven’t ridden 24” much but it’s still nimble enough to do some tricks on if you’re interested in that side of unicycling. I learned on a 26” wheel; in retrospect I probably would’ve learned much quicker on the smaller sizes. Still had a lot of fun though!

It is not so long ago that i learned unicycling and i remember well that i found the 24’’ significantly more difficult to handle, especially the freemount which unevitably sooner or later comes into play was a lot harder to learn on the 24’’. But i am a lot smaller than you 68 inch (174 cm) i don’t know how important that difference is.

Another fact that i remember very well is the crank length. After beiing able to ride and freemount my second hand uni, i bought a Quax Profi 20’’ unicycle. And was not able to freemount it. It took a while to realize that the reason for this was the crank length. My second hand uni had 117mm cranks and the Quax Profi had 100mm cranks. That made a huge difference. I had to order and mount 117mm cranks to be able to freemount the new uni. I still ride with these cranks today.

Wish you a lot of fun!
