I got some email this morning about these spokes being available for 32” wheels – from my understanding it is best to use double butted spokes for carbon rims, so these should address that requirement.
Ooooh. Shame they didn’t go slightly longer so we could also install them on a 36” as well.
When I upgrade to a carbon rim on the 32” maybe I’ll pick up some of these.
When I ordered my Nextie 32” rim, Nextie suggested I get PSR 14’s by Pillar Racing Spoke. I haven’t received either the rim or the spokes yet.

I was unaware of those, I’ll look them up, thanks. I just got the above in some email this morning and thought I would share it.
I have previously looked to see if Sapim did anything as I was considering a 32” LightBicycle rim since I need to rebuild my 32” wheel because spokes broke out of the hub. I put that on hold to see how things develop and these spokes piqued and revived my interest today.
I had a hunt and couldn’t find any long enough. What length did you get, and from where?
I’m getting them from Nextie, so I hope they work!
What length, or did you just give them hub dimensions and let them work it out?
No, I didn’t really give them anything. They just said, “Why don’t you use these?” I’ll have my local bike shop build the wheel, and i expect they’ll have to cut the spokes to length–assuming they are long enough.
Ahh, I’d love to know their source for such long PSR spokes as I’ve had a bit of a hunt around and can’t find any.
Based on my calculations unless you were running a hub motor on a bike the standard length versions would not be long enough for any hubs at 3 cross, so hopefully they’re going to ship you some blanks well in excess of what’s required.
Keep us updated!
PSR stands for…?
I don’t actually know ![]()
It’s just what most (maybe all) of Pillar’s spokes have as part of their naming.
Pillar Racing Spoke…
The PSR14 is plain gauge, so not butted. They do double, triple and quadruple butted spokes though – I didn’t look at any lengths. Quadruple butted seems quite exotic.
So it‘s the diameter rating system. I was assuming it was some special material - Pure Strength Resin or so.
I think it is something related to their cold forging technology, their other spokes have different prefixes, it will just be how they identify this series.
”As clearly indicated in the chart, you will see the PSR spoke is four times stronger than standard spokes. PSR has been developed by Pillar Spokes over the years, making Pillar the industry leader for both aftermarket and OEM alike.”
That is from:
So my original assumption wasn‘t that far off.
Pure Strength Resin.
Polished Steel Rails.
Plus Size Rods.
Poorly Scheduled Raids. No, probably not this.
I asked Nextie to double-check that the PSR 14 spokes would be the right length. Here is their response:
Uhm Pillar Racing Spoke would be PRS, no PSR .
So actually it is Pillar Spoke Reinforcement. The product line happens to be Pillar Racing Spokes, which just is coincidental with the same letters.
Seeing on this video:
Mention of and showing a Terevail Cannonball tyre 2.2” ![]()
Don’t think that’s been mentioned before:
Extra details are here:
This looks to be a Terevail branded rim too.
Also of note - Berd are now offering their own 32” wheels and the cross section of their rim looks somewhat akin to the LightBicycle offering -

Similar but not the same I’d say.
That looks like a reasonable tyre for a road or gravel uni. Hope it rides reasonably well, too.
