She is now at 320km in 16hrs26min. This is just under old men’s record mark (Lars Clausen 326km). Sam Wakeling hit 320km in about 16hrs20min, while I hit this mark in 15hrs 42min. I had a steeper drop off in speed than both Sam and Lisanne, so she may be on track to beat the men’s record as well.
Yesterday evening we visited a few hours for support, and the pace she had was insane.
For the first 7 hours she was able to stay on 22km/h average; therefore also beting a few dutch records like the 100km record (from 4h59 to 4h35).
Today will be a tough day, though. The weather forecast is expected to reach 30°C (86°F) today. Several marathons and other sporting events in the country already have been cancelled in due of the expected heat.
Looking noticeably stiffer on the live feed and needing some help to dismount/remount on the rest stops now. Second stop in two laps. Still doing 18km/hr+ when moving.
Two stops in a row, then first lap in the 17km/hr range. Looks hot out there. Two more laps to beat my 2005 men’s 24hr record (378.7km) with another 4hrs riding left
She would now need to ride 21km/h average for the next 3.5 hours in order to beat the record… and as mentioned, the current temperature is killing (for Dutch standards, at least).
I do honestly need to say: this is what I love about the unicycling community; the current world record holder is cheering for someone to beat their record.
When you get to ultra-marathons the speed differential between male/female is not that great compared to short distance events. A 48hr distance record could easily go the way of female.
If I get around to it, I’ll overlay my speed graph with Lisanne’s. I have a much steeper drop-off- particularly riding speed. Lisanne is taking quite a lot more breaks right now, which is dragging down her average. It’s probably more than just fatigue- something must be hurting.
Another stop now. Don’t have much commentary but from the livestream body language- she might be done. That long break in the previous lap would have caused the muscles to seize up.
She is riding, or started at least, with 100mm. Her father told me yesterday that they did bring 110mm in case it would get too difficult to keep riding. I’m not sure what’s currently on there.
