My Bum Hurts......

After the influence of big brother and a deep desire to be “different” i have
just recently become the proud owner of the most effective form of personal pain
infliction possible. In other words, my girlfriend has just purchased me a
unicycle. It is a nice chrome jobbie courtesy of some chap called “roger” at
unicycle.uk. and it would seem the only one in my local area.

The question i have is this. Is there anyone out here in cyberland, who lives
around Boston in Lincolnshire who rides a unicycle? I have managed to break what
i assume is the record for my road by traveling the length of my garden unaded,
but i am after finding a “Pro” (i.e. someone who makes it look easy…) who i
can admire and hopefully pick up a few tips from. So if you live somewhere near
me, maybe if travel allows we could get together and do stuff.

Also if anyone has any hints and tips for a new balance impared gravity friendly
unicyclist please let me know

Many Thanks

I do. Well, sort of. Does Connecticut count? Im also really hoping that you are
refering to Boston Mass., but as far as my luck goes in finding unicycling
friends on the east coast, its probably Boston India.

See how bad my luck is? Now I cant even read correctly. I should know better
than to get my hopes up like that.

I can just imagine some trucker guy with a belt buckle the size of one of
our wheels saying that. “If it aint got 18 wheels, it aint worth drivin’!”
Keep those feet on the pedals Pat, cuz smokeys on your tail (a’la Smokey and

Re: My Bum Hurts…

I am struggling to find riders in Bolton for you. If you don’t mind doing a
little bit of travelling there is a juggling club at Lancaster University, they
meet on Tuesdays and I know that there are some unicyclists there. I can get you
details if you would like.

You should really come along to some of the conventions that are on. There is
Manchester coming up soon, there will be quite a few riders there and on the
22nd October there is the Durham Juggling Convention! We have Julian Money
coming! You want someone to amaze and admire this is the guy - simply the
best at what he does.

By the way, wear cycling shorts and buy some “Butt Buttr”… oops we don’t sell
any of that yet, but give us a couple of weeks and we will

Cheers

Roger

Easy Rider, You are neither balance impaired nor gravity friendly. It just takes
some time and effort. My tip: stick with it; it’s a lot of fun. It sounds like
you’re coming right along, probably faster than most first time riders. As for
your bum and everything else between your waist and thighs, there are more
comfortable seats that you can rig with bicycle inner tubes to inflate - I
believe the Miyata is one, maybe the only one. I don’t own one, but there are
folks on the news group who write about rigging seats for comfort all the time.
That’s pretty neat that your girlfriend bought you a uni.

Roger seems to a liitle out on his geography, Boston, being nowhere near
Bolton. However

> You should really come along to some of the conventions that are on. There

Absolulty, Your nearest one soon would be the Cambridge Juggling Convention on
the 8th Oct, its mainly a juggle fest BUT there are some very good uni riders
atached to that club, Stu swift and mark R for two. So you might find some more
who live in your neck of the woods. If you have never been to a juggle fest
before, don’t worry they don’t bite and they won’t force you to toss balls about
( unless you want to:-). Generally there is a notice board of sorts where you
could appeal for local riders, and you can always ask to anybody else with a
wheel where they come from.

Seconded esp the shorts bit.
