MUni/trials around London (UK)

Does anybody know if there is any MUni riding anywhere near London (UK). I am heading there around the end of June for a Conference/Vacation

Nope, but I’ll be heading there 23-29 Jun if you want to hunt for some Muni trails together.

Aston Hill

This suggestion comes with the warnng that I am not yet into muni, I have not tried riding at Aston hill and I don’t know what the attitude of the locals would be but you could give it a go.

Have a look at Aston Hill To see what is there / maps of the riding area and how to get there etc.

It would cost money to ride there as you need to be a day member of the club to be insured (£4).

There’s lots of riding within about 45-1 hours train ride away, cost about
£5 or so return.

North Downs near Dorking / Guildford are fun. Trains to Dorking / Gomshall /
Clandon / Holmwood
from London Waterloo or Victoria stations. This is mainly cross country,
nothing too technical, lovely woods and countryside stuff.

Swinley Forest, train to Bracknell / Martins Heron from Waterloo station.
This has a ‘mountain bike area’ with loads of singletrack, some of it quite
difficult, muddy, no rocks, quite busy at a weekend.

Aston Hill mountain bike area, train to Wendover from London Marylebone
station. Website at
http://www.astonhill.com/
This has a downhill course which is supposed to be good, a cross country
course, gets very muddy if there’s been lots of rain, all in all a more
hardcore option than the two above.

London also has some wicked urban riding, best place to start for that is on
the South Bank, near Waterloo tube, then you can combine it with
sightseeing, start at the London Eye, it’s a bit of a playground around
there, steps, bollards, lots of skaters / bmx / trials bikes etc. hang out
near the festival hall, there’s some security, but it’s pretty low key
except right near the London Eye.

You can then head down towards the Tate Modern (east along the river),
ignore signs about no bikes, no-one takes any notice of them, across the
millenium bridge to the millenium skating playground that is the path
towards St Pauls cathedral, police are often here, but they don’t know what
to say to unicyclists so don’t hassle you much. Then can catch the tube into
London, or head west along the north embankment up to Somerset house which
has really cool fountains under a big courtyard which you’re probably not
allowed to ride through, but which just have to be ridden through.

Start here:-

Also if you were to turn up at 11:00 on a sunday at the Stone Circle outside
the National Film Theatre (on the South Bank) loads of trials bikers meet up
and all play around. There are some totally insane and very very good bikers
coming to these things, well worth going just to see what they can do.

I live in Balham (South.London), it’s easy for me to get into central
London, so email me nearer to the time if you want to meet up for a ride,
I’m not around at the weekend of the 22nd, not sure about the next one
either, but if you guys are around in the week of the 23-27 I could organise
some urban evening riding, or a days ride at one of the offroad places,
maybe Aston Hill or something.

there plaenty around London, but sometimes you need to hop on a train to
escape the city and find the good places. I’m about 30 miles west of
London, and there is god riding at Swinley Forest ( Braknel train station0
and in the Chilterns ( Reading or Goring stataions) Going South you might
like Ranmore common/ Boxhill ( Boxhill station) . In London, Wimbledon
common is one of Joe Marshalls muni haunts. street trials stuff can be
found all over, the South Bank centre ( Central London by Waterloo
station) is thought to be pretty fine by the skate kiddy crowd.

While you in town, why not pop along to Lunis on Thursday evening and try
uni hockey as well?

I wouldn’t bother travelling to Wimbledon common, it’s a good place to try
out a new unicycle or to ride in winter, but I only ride it much cos it’s
near home.

Ooops, I forgot that, yes come to Lunis, it’s great fun. Although Lunis is
not at the usual place for the next few weeks, I think they’re doing exams
there or something, it may be happening somewhere else, mail closer to the
time to find out if it’s on if you’re interested in some hockey.
