Hi everyone, Just wanted to mention something that turned up recently in a
magazine. My wife received a free sample of a new publication here in the U.S.,
“Sports Illustrated for Women” (Fall '99, #3, soccer player on cover). On page
20 is a small bit of writing:
“Extrememly Extreme: If ballroom dancing belongs in the Olympics (even as a
trial sport), then we say elephant polo belongs in the X Games. The following
are five sports (and we’re NOT making these up) that we’d like to see in future
X Games. -Paula Hunt”
Number four was “Rough Terrain Unicycling - what it is: mountain biking on a
unicycle – Risks: One wheel, no handlebars, no brakes – Rewards: Getting to
sneer at those Tour de France wimps who ride on smooth, paved asphalt (with the
benefit of handlebars and brakes!)”
It’s accompanied by a little cartoon of a woman on a unicyle evading a mountain
goat on a steep slope. By the way, the other four were Open Water Solo Swimming,
Underwater Hockey, Elephant Polo, and Ultra Barefoot Marathon.

Wow! Muni at the same level as open water swimming and Octapush… We really
are doing well. I do not know about Elephant Polo, and Ultra Barefoot Marathon.
But I know some about Open Water Solo Swimming, Underwater Hockey and they have
considerably more numbers of participants than we do. Great publicity
