I said I couldn’t resist the challenge. This is what it looks like:
I’m not quite sure how Catherine managed it, but somehow my cranks seem to
be in the same position in every picture. Ho hum.

Excellent photos all taken with appropriate unicycling attire (a sleeveless tee shirt with a uni slogan is appropriate enough). What is your next uni/chore goal? Dog walking is pretty much a done deal. I was thinking about car washing. Or tree trimming on the giraffe.

Hmm. Well, the car could do with washing, but it’s the wife’s car so I
ought to encourage her to wash it (she won’t mow the lawn, you just can’t
get women to do their chores these days).
I think maybe creosoting the fence.

But not while drinking beer, because I’d get creosote in the beer and that
would be a waste.

It is a flymo and the head designer is a unicyclist.

I’m starting to realise why people think the lawn’s not being mowed. They
expect to see the shorter grass behind me. The thought didn’t occur to me
beforehand, because I simply couldn’t mow my lawn like that without serious
damage to my back. I start at the top of the hill, facing uphill, then work
down the hill, going backwards. Easy.

His name is Rick, I met him and introduced him in to unicycling probably 6
years ago when I was doing some design work for Flymo. The design
department for Flymo/Electorlux is only 15 miles from here. I helped him
work out the layout of his current unicycle which is similar to the CF uni
Mk3 but with aluminium legs instead of carbon. His is really nice looking
with blue legs and soft finish aluminium crown.
The mower shown in Danny’s pictures is the one I did some concept work on.
is that a hovering lawn mower? were the blade on teh bottem goes around so fast that i lifts itself off the ground? so you dont have to worry about wheels oor anything?

Yes, though it’s actually got an impeller mounted above the blade - the
blade doesn’t generate the air stream on which the mower hovers.
Richard Loxley wondered:
> Do they not have hover mowers outside of the UK?
I’ve just had a look at http://www.flymo.com (cool sound effects BTW) and
the Dealer Locator doesn’t list any dealers outside the UK. The Global
Contacts page says that they have outlets in ‘most European Countries,
Australia, South America and South Africa’. No mention of North America.
I’d be amazed if Flymo hadn’t broken into international markets. ISTR
they’ve been around since at least the early 80’s, maybe the late 70’s, and
I’d have thought the majority of mowers sold in the UK were Flymos.
Unfortunately the cushion of air doesn’t work quite so well on the slope of
my back garden, but it’s still easier to use than Richard’s lawn mower (that
must be why my lawn gets mowed occasionally, Richard
(FWIW, the first couple of times I mowed my lawn after we bought the house
and before I got my own mower, I borrowed Richard’s mower. Even better,
Richard was generous enough to perform the first mow himself while Catherine
and I were unpacking).

What you have to worry about is when the grass is too thick and the motor
bogs down. Then you have to drag the thing back to a non-grassy area to
start it up again!
Oh, sorry, that only applies to a gas (petrol) motor. I guess an electric
one keeps going, or trying to, no matter what.
The other thing to worry about, with your hover-mower, is getting a piece of
rope or cable caught in the blade. Next thing to know, the whole mower is
spinning around with you holding onto the handle – and you’ve spilt your
beer.
You can’t see her, but Jenny was in the chair when those pictures were
taken. The trick is to grab the pushchair when Catherine’s back is turned
