Any recommendations for specific knee pads, gloves, or wrist guards that you like? Over 50 and starting trail riding so figure some extra protection might be good.
Currently using 661 DBO knee and elbow pads. Really like them apart from their capacity to get very stinky! They have a D30 flexible insert in them rather than hard plastic so are much less movement limiting than hard pads. Multiple different brands have this type of insert so fit and price are probably going to be more important than specific brand.
Wrist wise, i’m just using cycling gloves. If you go that way, gel pads do make a difference if you go down hard.
Big fan of Ion stuff.
Now using their stretchy slimline options for both knee and elbow ARCON LT, but before that I loved my K-Pact Select - not sure they’re made any longer but think you can find those on Amazon:

For hands, it could be beneficial for you to have some wrist protection even it feels like it is limiting your range of motion (but you are on a unicycle not in a watch assembly line 
).
Any roller/skate protection will do (again fit & comfort first) or you can go for Kris Holm gloves (any generation).
Nobody mentioned the elephant in the room: what color of helmet is the best one ? 
Where do you live? I’m in Seattle and have some 661 arms and legs I would give to you. I’m 6’2" and they were a bit short for me. They would better fit someone in the 5’8" to 6’0" range. Lightweight and probably cheap to ship.

I bought these 661 arms and legs when I was about 50 to do the same thing you’re doing…riding trails and doing trials. Those pads need to keep on working. Glad to send them to you.

I use Mechanix original gloves, Ennui City Brace wrist guards, Alpinestars A1 pro chest protector, POC VPD air elbow pads, and Pearl Izumi Elevate knee pads. I also wear a Specialized Gambit full face helmet, but I wish I’d gotten one of the cooler looking ones from other brands instead of focusing solely on weight. Of the above, I’m most happy with the wrist guards. They’re way better than anything else I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a few
Nothing matters more than fit, though. If your pads are too loose, they’ll slide off when you crash
