Miyata?

Does anyone know of anywhere I could buy a new miyata 20" in the UK, I have
tryied thousands of bike stores and phoned specialists but can’t find anyone
anywhere, can anyone help please!

Re: Miyata?

Why are you looking for a Miyata when you have DM’s local in the UK? I’m
assuming that the DM’s are more affordable in the UK than they are over here in
the USA so cost wouldn’t be the major issue. The DM Ringmaster is a wonderful
and solid unicycle. The Miyatas are good but I’ve always viewed them as more of
a childs unicycle than an adults unicycle. In my humble opinion the DM
Ringmaster is a better unicycle than the Miyata.

It depends on the riding you will do. The Ringmaster is very robust, and is
great if you’re an entertainer or just heavy duty rider. But what makes the
Ringmaster so strong also makes it heavy. If you go to a UNICON, you will notice
the overwhelming number of Miyatas. For freestyle and track racing, the
lightweight and rigid Miyata is an excellent design. It also tends to win MUni
races if the courses aren’t long or difficult enough, which they usually aren’t.

Yes, I’m aware that at the latest UNICON, many of the races were won not by
Miyatas, but Miyata look-alikes; the King unicycles from China…

Sounds like Miyata is having to compete in the marketplace. Maybe this was not
necessary in the earlier days of the JUA when sales were huge. Unfortunately to
us in the rest of the world, it almost seems like Miyata contributed to their
own potential demise. Though they made an excellent unicycle, they paid no
attention to unicyclists in the countries where much unicycling innovation was
going on (US, Sweden, Germany, Puerto Rico). Product input from myself and lots
of people I know seemed to fall on deaf ears over the years.

Most of all Miyata unicycles have always, since the early 1980s, been hard to
get in my country. Today they are easier than ever, but the supply over here has
always been limited, and it has always RUN OUT long before replacements arrived.
Always. Sometimes we used to wait up to six months for the next shipment of
unicycles or parts from Japan.

Judging by the overwhelming number of Miyatas used by contestants from most
countries at UNICONs, the market is there. I sure wish they could support it
better. I know countless people who wanted one, but ended up buying something
else because there were none available at the time.

I hope Miyata will find a way to stay competitive, and to take advantage of
their position as makers of one of the very best street unicycles available. Too
bad they have never seemed to ask the unicycling community (outside of Japan, at
least) for advice.

It’s not too late.

The former Miyata Deluxe is, or used to be, considered the best manufactured
unicycle in the world, and many world champion class riders use it. I do not
speak for Miyata when I say this, but for myself and many others. (Many are
under the erroneous impression that I am associated with Miyata in some way, but
I am not.)

Sadly, the quality of the Miyata Delux has gone down – for example, the cranks
are no longer alloy, and I am very disappointed. The Japanese market is flooded
with Taiwanese unicycles (about 80%?), and I guess this is causing Miyata not to
put much effort into their uncicyles.

The MYS Corporation is now working on a website for selling Miyata unicycles
overseas. This will probably take a few months, In the meantime, it is
unfortunate that it is difficult to buy Miyatas in countries like the UK and
Australia.

People often also ask about saddles that aren’t green. This is possible but only
in lots of at least 10 units.

Re: Miyata seat bumpers

Any chance of purchasing replacement handles and bumpers in blue if we order ten
at a time?

Blessings!
